Just bought an army green 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition and am having a hard time finding a soft top camper shell that's compatible with the storage boxes that came with the truck. I need to be able to cover the bed when going to baseball tournaments for my boys, and the bed is too shallow to just put a tonneau cover on it and still fit everything.

Softopper doesn't say anything about it, but when I ordered it yesterday it had a note in the order confirmation that it wasn't compatible, so I called and cancelled

Bestop customer service said specifically that the Super Top 2 wouldn't fit a 2022.

There's the Outlander soft camper shell that looks like it would fit, but I can't find any reviews at all, or any pictures of one on a Tacoma

It seems like my only options may be to remove the storage boxes, or get a hard shell like the RSI Smart Cap

    welcome!
you may try to use those boxes for a while, then make your decision, rather than looking for an obscure top that isn't your first choice, to work around what you may end up removing anyways. I've never used the side boxes, but they look very awkward to me and reviews on them are horrible.

The bed should be the same (difference between long and short bed of course) from 2016-2022 as far as fitting. Love my Softopper…wouldn’t buy a Bestop…not the same quality or CS

the only issue I could imagine is the distance the frame hangs down from where the rotating parts sits in the bed rail.

The topper mounts to the tracks that are just above the boxes. So depending on how much clearance there would be between the clamp bolts and the box would determine if you can put the topper on.

I think soft topper branded clamps have the bolt on the top of the clamp and would clear the boxes. Bestop has the bolt on the bottom of the clamp and would make installation nearly impossible.

Did you make a decision? I too am
Looking for a soft top. I really like the Outlander. I base this decision on how it attaches. I like that it doesn’t hinge like the soft topper inside the bed. I like that the soft topper has solid sides as opposed to the windowed sides of the Outlander. It’s weird that there isn’t much for reviews. I actually wrote them an email two days ago about that. Only videos I’ve found on YouTube are theirs and even google images seems to be limited. Haha.

    For the curious:

The rail clamps don't poke down at all on the softopper. However, the hinge and frame mechanism absolutely would interfere with the trail boxes.
