Hopefully they improved their clamps as well because mine (the older model) blew off in a crazy windstorm. Gusts of 70-80+ mph bent and sheared my clamps. My guess is the bad fitment of the gap between the cab and topper on the older models created a crazy pocket for air resistance. Anyhow, mine was never to be seen again. Wasnt to happy about it as I had been diligent on making sure the clamps were tight. I'd suggest adding more clamps if you have an older model in a 3rd gen.

They are actually pretty similar in design. But yeah yours are slightly different. Mine look to be right angles and yours curved. Got mine in early 2016. When was yours purchased?

Nice, looks like they are actually pairing these with decent hardware now. I did in fact call and voice my displeasure with their company selling the old model as a 3rd gen model. I'm sure that "pocket" I referred to caused the c clamp failure. Glad to see it's been revamped and it's working out for people. I also got pulled over for having the Bestop blocking my brake light. So that's definitely another knock in my book.

If you read what I was quoting you can see I was referring to Bestop.

Most everyone on the road around here is a shit driver, so I made my own third brake light.

I also have the full "C" mod on the tails just so no one is confused.

Good move there are definitely cheap solutions for the brake light. I never got around to it before I lost it though :pout:

Thanks! Yeah, it was only about $15 or $20 with a lot of leftovers for stuff like the mood lighting inside.

I would be upset if mine flew off and would half expect either to stand behind it given your pic.

Nice, that looks perfect. I'm actually over it and am pretty proud that Bestop did their due diligence on their product. Now that I can see modifications to design and improved hardware I have nothing bad to say about Bestops new design. If we can take anything away from my situation and info it is to be careful if you're in the market for a Bestop on a 3rd gen. Make sure it's the redesigned model. Also, be careful shopping used for this reason as well.

Wait so you have a Softopper brand? I've been referring to Bestops design and C clamps. I lost a Bestop. Softopper clamps are obviously superior from your posts. Bestop now has a redesign for 3rd gens apparently and I would like to see their clamps for the new 3rd gen model. I posted the old design Bestop c clamps.

They did, the new clamps are pretty beefy, and black to match the bed.

Whoa okay. A simple bestop answer would have sufficed.

I only asked because you were quoted with a picture of a softopper.

I’m enjoying my older model bestop. I bought it on Amazon warehouse for $400. I did my own DD and decided it would work just fine with some minor modifications. I purchased aftermarket clamps that mount in the bed channels. I also purchased a section of aluminum angle and clamp the front down to my installed front bedrail rather than using the Velcro. The other thing is positioning the top even with the front of the bed so it is closer to the cab. I would not be thrilled with the bestop model I have if I paid retail, the factory clamp replacement and need for additional material to attached the front should be included for the price. With my mods I doubt I’ll have any issues. Keeps the bed dry and I kind of like the look of it compared to a hardtop. I bought it primarily to use until I can find a used hardtop with the options I want though (Windoors, mgm LB, etc etc).
