A lot of guys replace their OEM suspension for relatively inexpensive components and swear they retain on road handling and off road capabilities. Our idea or relative and theirs could be two different thing however :D

I am the worst person to say this because I plan on upgrading mine eventually but honestly, as long as you don't go crazy and stay within your "safety" zone the Tacoma is already capable of handling a lot of situations. It's when you start adding larger tires that weigh a lot or off road into areas that cause a lot of extreme up and (worse) down movements, or do it at higher speeds on roads like fire trails, or in the desert. Then you need to invest more money.

But for the average Joe, that just wants to get a little farther off the beaten path to avoid the overcrowded fishin' holes or whatever the stock Tacoma can do it. I do recommend an All Terrain tire at least for anything that gets wet/snowy/muddy/slippery.

@RobP62 you know Rob, no one other than my wife can comfort me about things in life, but when it comes to Tacoma’s, my wife isn’t the one. You are. I heart you.

Very nice of you to say @jayrobot

Well, life's just too damn short to be glass half empty all the time. Plus who am I to be telling other people what's best for them and their trucks? Who am I, the Taco Whisperer? LOL

There seems to be a rampant amount of know it alls lately and I definitely am not, or profess to be one.

I will offer what I know and no more, in as positive a manner as possible. What people do with the information is up to and on them.

No one has to tell her...but I would never. The Tacoma is the only side piece she’s sort’ve ok with and I’ll keep it at that! :)

As well as many members who have to hide in the bathroom with their phones while “handling thier biz” to catch up on TW or order mods. I’ve practiced the art of minimizing windows on my monitor as fast as an outlaw duel at high noon.

Yea, luckily our house has multiple "Libraries" so I have my own, and yes, the phone absolutely comes with me! :D

Yea, at work I have a pretty sweet setup. Two main 24" monitors and then my laptop open to the left behind my big head to hide the TW screen! HAHAHAHAHA

Ok, just saw on another thread I sub to that $250 is not bad.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cap-city-build-bs-af.427538/page-8932#post-18212933

And you might as well try to sell the OEM shocks if possible. Don't expect much for them though. The only time I have heard a need is when someone is trading in their truck and the dealer wants the OEMs back on, or someone with a older generation truck wants to do a slight upgrade.

Mine will likely wind in the box I have with all the other OEM parts I am removing, that I joke about building another Tacoma one mod at a time. :D

These are trucks, trucks ride differently then cars. Trucks ride rough empty because they are designed to haul a load in the bed. Trucks don't equal comfort, they equal work.

Do no brake over bumps; brake before the bump, then free roll over it. This keeps the spring from being loaded with brake reaction force, allowing the whole spring to 'work'.

Wheel & Tire size also makes a difference ... the 16” wheel/tire combo (265/70/R16) gives a taller sidewall which will help soften the ride as well .

I put Bilistein 8112's up front and 8110's in the rear.
Expensive, but I corner like a sports car on road (much much better than the stock Sport and Pro shocks) and don't bottom out off-road or bounce around like a marble on a coffee-can off road. Handles much better than the Pro and offroad.
The level of control is amazing compared to stock.
Makes the truck feel like I paid twice as much for it!
You guys won't believe how bad the stock and lower end shocks are compared to the higher end systems.

Don't skimp out on tires or suspension... they will give you the biggest bang for the buck with these trucks.
