It's a legitimate question. Not everybody is a suspension expert.

The guys who said "tires" are correct. Good quality tires on stock suspension provide the best ride.

Which Toytec coilovers do you have now? I have the Boss lift and it rides smooth, just a touch firmer than stock. Like others have said you probably need to adjust the air pressure in your tires to get the ride your looking for.

Drove a chevy Colorado the other day and rides way more plush.

I'm planning to add a spacer lift with wheeler's bumpstops on my SR5 to hopefully retain the ride.

I like how my 2012 OR DCSB rides firmer than my 2012 4Runner - which is taller and floats over bumps

Hey guys - thanks for all of the positive input.
...(even thought there are definitely more assholes on this site than when I joined 7+ years ago)... To those that were not the a-holes, I do appreciate the input.

I do realize that I won't get back to my stock ride quality without going back to a stock suspension. I am really just looking for a soft suspension to stuff under my truck.

Current setup is ToyToc coil overs up, with an AAL out back, all on Nitto 33's.

    Thanks.

What's your current air pressure in your tires?

Go back to stock. Stick to highway tread tires.

stock is most likely going to be your best bet. when i ride in a stock suspension tacoma compared to mine (which is a fine ride to me) it feels like I'm riding a cloud lol.[IMG]

I cannot agree. I ran my 1st gen with passive rebound. All dampening, the way you run for desert racing. I would drag my rail to the dunes in S Oregon and leave it parked. The truck was so mush more fun.

    First off toss tha
First off toss that AAL. That is causing all of the harshness in the rear end. Second. Get a shock with superior dampening but a coil with less rebound. Compensate for roll with larger sway bars or just Polyurethane bushings. To go a step further remove a spring from the leaf pack and use a shim or convert to a trailing link with coil overs if you can find a shop with the skill. Basically you want to upgrade the shock but downgrade the springs then shim for height.

There is a reason so many opt for the 5100 or 2.0 but retain the factory coil. The "ride" is all in the dampening. The coils and springs just bring it back up for the next bump. High damp, low rebound, heavy sway bar.

Heavy damp absorbs the bump. Light coil slows the bounce, heavy sway bar cuts the body roll. It's like these drifter wannabes that think hey I'm gonna drop my 240sx to the bump stops then can't figure out why they ended up in the ditch half way through the corner... stiff is not always best.

This thread is three years old lol, and there are many threads on this same topic.

However, I will add my input of Eibach pro-truck struts/shocks are more comfortable than stock struts to me. Its a bit soft in turns at speed, but it rides super nice on the highway, even in a regular cab. Very controlled but comfortable.
