Looks awesome! I'm sure you'd have several members (including myself) ready to order if/when you decide to put all this into a kit. Any idea of roughly how much the setup would cost?

I think somewhere around $200 in materials.

I’m not going to sell kits though.

You should consider making a kit and selling. Id be willing to pay a few hundred bucks if it were legit.

That is in no way shape or form enough structure to hold up to a stiff breeze.

Working on the fabric sides. If I use a lighter weight fabric I could possibly do something similar to pop tops where the fabric stays on permanently.

OP. You should sell a kit man. I’d definitely buy it.

Clever setup, I like it. Can the soft topper still be collapsed and packed away easily? Or do you need to take apart the entire scissor lift?

Interesting idea but the strength and stabilization is key. Right now, sorta looks flimsy and i would want to be caught in a windy storm with it up

Unfortunately still not going to sell it as a kit.

Update on functionality: been using it since the summer. It has worked out really well. It’s super nice to be able to sit up when you are sleeping back there. The only issue that I need to figure out is how to quickly switch over to to my bed rack bars to haul long items. There was only one night on the Arizona Utah birder that was too windy to pop up.
It would also be cool to be able to keep the fabric on when it’s collapsed.

No worries on not selling a kit. From the pictures and descriptions in this thread, it looks like you bought a soft top and added the struts and braces to get it to lift up and down. Some clamps to keep it down. The fabric addition looks hand cut and homemade. What were some challenges you faced? You mentioned easy removal to add bed racks. I'm guessing the soft topper itself isn't attached to the bed, but your lift struts?
