So I have been looking at the softopper for my 2017 DCLB. Quick question to those that have one. When you don't want it up does it sit flat on the bed like a regular tonneau cover? Or do I have to take it off. I currently have the factory cover but for trips I would like the extra room.
    Thanks in advance

it folds forward near the rear cab window. Taking it off is a <5 min job. Get one, you'll love it.

As everyone else has said, I love mine and it's super simple to fold down or take off completely. I've had mine for about a month and I really like it.

Love my Softopper. Mine is always on, plan to keep it on for the summer and switch back to my tonneau cover for Winter. Like mentioned above it’s really quick to come off. When it’s folded down I feel it might get stolen minus the rails as there’s only 2 key rings holding it on at that point. The thing only weighs like 30lbs. Saying that I don’t think I’ll ever go back to hard top as I can take it off/put it on myself.

Just a note that your gap to the cab is pretty large. If you did not intend it to be that way, the instructions show a 2nd Gen. They didn't have the front header rail that we have. So, the alignment for the Softopper mounting rails is the back of the bed front wall.

It folds down like a convertible top .when you need the whole bed and if you want they make a bag that goes over it if you want to store it on your truck . Like others said it removes in a few minutes super light . I leave mine on all year round no issues .expect for some blind spots since it does not have side windows. The back window over time starts to look not as clear anymore .easy fix get some plastic window restorer .

Thanks, yeah I’ve moved the rails forward since the picture. The back flap fits better. I bought it used and lined it up with the previous marks in weather stripping which is why it sat where it did.

I've noticed that the foam seals take a very good impression.

I got it all put on and I'm very happy with it so far.
Now the rear window has a wrinkle/wave in it. Should I just wait until it warms up to adjust it?

Out of curiosity, how come? Better cold weather performance?

I live on a gravel road so you couldn’t see out windows anyway

it gets cold af here so the windows would get destroyed

what @Skydvvr said. I loved the softopper on my 2016 access cab. You can fit a full size futon mattress in the back and I brought that truck camping well over 30 times. lt rocks. The first time you set it up is the learning curve, after that, it takes under 5 mins to set it up. Consider getting the storage cover for it so you can put it away when not in use.

If you have rails installed for a tonneau (for example, I have Lomax), can you install the softopper over the top of those rails? I was hoping to remove the cover periodically, but keep the rails on so it's easy to put back on when the softopper is not in use.
