Sold my supertop 2 cause it sucked in dust like a got damn vacuum. every damn corner of the rail system has holes. Wife was not impressed when her camping stuff was covered in dirt.

Thanks for this report. I’m specifically interested in feedback on the new version of the Supertop.

LOL just clean it with soap and water, lay it flat, and then put the stickers on. I have like 5 on mine!

The installation was easy, but the unit I had received needed some fine adjustment. The super top sat fairly leaned away from the cab allowing it to catch more air. I had to move the supports around to make it sit straight and flat. It took 5 minutes, but you would think that they would just have it set propper. the pic below is after the adjustment, the front of the supertop 2 is flat instead of leaning away from the cab.

The one thing that always irked me was the fact that the rear center cross bar would leak tons of dirt/sand. The design has the rear flap pulling up on the bar which makes it bow in the middle.

I have a supertop 2, I love it. Been on for nearly 2 years, no problems with it.

EDIT: I should say, I put my top up for the winter and leave it. In the summer its usually down unless we are putting things in the bed. So putting up and down is not something I do very often.

Had to sell my 17 Tacoma for a tow rig in order to pull my new home. Still here for a bit to keep in touch.
I have the Super top 2 from Bestop. And I would have to say buy the Soft topper. The bar across the bed in the rear is a pain in the ass. My rear window snapped in 35 degree weather, and the frame extends into the bed pretty far. I like the look of the Bestop, but I have had some major issues with both the topper and the customer service. PS, They do not cover their windows in the warranty.

Softopper by far. I called Bestop once and after the attitude the gal gave me over the phone after asking questions the decision was easy and I’m glad I chose Softopper. Plus I added little earth 3” strip magnets inside the bottom of the rear flap by sewing them in between the layers so no adhesive Velcro needed. Works like a charm

What is involved in adding the magnets? That seems like the best solution to rear flap issue.

I don’t have magnets or Velcro on my softopper flap and it doesn’t flap while driving. Softopper hands down IMO.

At one end of the flap make a slice gently flush so you don’t cut through both layers. Use an exacto knife with #11 blade. I used a yard stick to slide the magnets down the length and then sew each one into a small 4-5” space. Hopefully you can see these pics.
My finger points to the slice/insertion point. Then you can see where I stitched each section. 5 sections total. Took one hour

I’ve had my softopper for a month or so now and can compare the setup to my snugtop rebel camper shell, DB tonneau cover, truxport roll up tonneau. By far my favorite setup. It’s so versatile! The only thing is lockable storage for me but I tend not to leave things of value in the bed and carry a cable lock that I route through the bed stiffeners eyelet to lock whatever is of value if I can.

Ok... I think I understand. You cut a slit in the Velcro and slide the magnets into the space between the Velcro layer and the canvas layer. Do I have that right? And then you are stitching around each magnet so that you can keep them evenly spaced? Seems like a good solution. Let me know if I’m understanding it correctly.

What about up front? Did you do anything special on the cab side? They call for Velcro up there too, right?

Except when it picks iron particles out of the kicked up dirt! @SpeySquatch no issues like that?

zero. In fact, I’m surprised there are absolutely no scratches where the soft Velcro is. It sucks pretty tight to the paint and looks good as new. We don’t really have iron in the soil I’ve noticed here in Idaho...just gold :D

correct. And I used the Velcro up front on the inside of the bed with the snaps screwed into the bed plastic. After two coats of seam sealer it doesn’t leak at all and I’ve been through some hellacious rain

Thank you so much. Definitely leaning toward a Softopper now.
