Do you guys like your soft toppers? I found a guy selling one local that is moving out of state, so I can get it cheap. Just looking for pros and cons to it. Really just looking for something to keep stuff dry (golf clubs, hunting stuff, maybe the dogs on a ride). Security doesn’t mean a lot to me, I live in the middle of the woods, so no one would break in to it anyways.

I’m going to offer the guy $300 for it, and for that price, would it fit my needs?

My son loves his he’s stationed in Wisconsin never takes it off but he does lay it down every now and then. When he was stationed in Alabama he only put it on to go camping and to the beach. He will never sell it makes me want one. A sharp knife is all you need to break in so keep that in mind.

I bought one for my 1992 Toyota Pickup. I really like it. For $300, that would be hard to beat. If you don't need it, it comes off quickly and goes back on quickly. You can also fold it down, as you know. I think they look a little goofy on the Tacomas as the sides don't contour the cab they way I think they should but otherwise very functional.

Thanks! I’m headed down tomorrow after work to grab it. I spotted it on his wall today while I was buying sliders from him, so it’s an impulse buy, but they’re letting go of it for $300, so even if I don’t like it, I can sell it pretty easily for what I paid anyways

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
Cheap used hard shells that fit a third gen Taco are not seen often.
The Softopper is a low risk option to see if you really want a topper.
Keep track of how much "on time" it gets. How many times you fold it for an outsized load, and how often you remove the entire "tent" (it only takes a few minutes.

Hard shells are heavy and labor-some to remove and replace. And they do NOT fold! I'm liking the Softopper for all the above reasons... Plus, they are not costly!

Looks great OP. I picked up a used one for $450. You got a great deal on yours. I love the safari mode for day to day and switch to full topper when camping. One of the best buys for my Tacoma so far.

I definitely did get a great deal. He gave me the cover for it when it’s laid down, and also the rear screen window for $300. I bought a set of BAMF sliders from him too for $500. I’m going to see what other goodies he’s got haha I’m currently getting all the old paint of these and going to repaint them

That is a killer deal for everything. You can not beat that price on those sliders. You hit the used jackpot lol.

I have never actually seen one in eastern Canada where I am. Everybody has fibreglass caps. I assumed it's because soft tops don't like winter.

I've had two now, regret selling my first one. I run it year round and just roll up the sides in the warmer months. It's held up fine through the winter snow.

It's usage is pretty versatile and I like the fact that the topper itself can be removed fairly quickly or laid back if you need to open the bed up.
