I don’t know if it’s because I have been driving real hard since getting re-flashed.

But... the tune doesn’t seem to be returning to pre-TSB like many have reported have a 1000 miles or so.

I am probably going to have to get OVtune because I didn’t realize ECU tune could noticeably impact performance.

    Greetings, Tacoma Comrades!

POSITIVE UPDATE: I have an update for you from my previous post a couple days ago when I inquired about my version of ECM, idle surge, the TSB's, etc.

TODAY: I took my 2018 Taco OR MT to the dealer today to have the 10,000 mile service completed and to also inquire about the idle surge I was experiencing between shifting gears. Here's a play-by-play of how it all went down: After checking in with the service rep he asked if there was anything else I needed help with other than the 10k service. I promptly replied, "Yes, I'm experiencing an idle surge between shifting gears and it's a manual transmission so this is causing me to slip the clutch between gears." He said, "Hmm, that's weird - I wonder what would cause that?" I promptly replied again, "Well, there's is a Technical Service Bulletin that I believe addresses this problem and I would appreciate your service tech attaching a TechStream computer to see if there is an update for my ECM." He looked at me bewildered and said, "Sir, it sounds like you know what you're talking about." My response was, "Yes, I've done a fair amount of research on this and I'm pretty sure Toyota has released an update for my ECM since the original build date of January 2018 when my pickup was built." He asked me for the TSB number and I provided him with a copy of 0125-18. We completed the check-in process and I was promptly escorted to the service waiting area for a fresh cup of coffee from a very fancy coffee machine!

Two hours later, and after too many election news stories on CNN, I was paged over the intercom by the service representative for "pickup of my pickup." I will admit I was a little nervous when I approached the counter as I was fully expecting to get some BS answer as to why the update could not be completed or no update was found or a million other BS excuses...

Much to my surprise, the service rep said the work was completed and the service tech was able to find an ECM update just as I had explained. The rep said the install was complete and to let them know if I experienced any other concerns with the vehicle and they would be happy to assist.

I thanked them for their time and the positive customer service experience. I retrieved my key, paperwork, and a fresh mint attached to a customer service survey card (that I will actually fill out and mail back).

DRIVING HOME: Well, I cannot over-emphasize this enough! The idle surge I was experiencing between shifts is COMPLETELY gone! I never had any real issue with the aforementioned surge at 40-50mph but the high rev idle between shifts was driving me crazy...and causing me to slip the clutch. FIXED!!!

LONG AND SHORT: Go in with your ducks in a row and know what you're talking about. It doesn't have to be a battle if you explain there is an ECM update available for your model and year of Tacoma and that because the vehicle is under warranty - you want the service department to check for the update and install it.

Below, are a couple pics of my departing paperwork showing the update was performed.

Good luck ya'll - whoever is updating the map - please place a green dot over "McCord's Vancouver Toyota" in Vancouver, Washington (place a gold star if you can).

That's some goodness, right there. Esp as TSB-0125-18 is does not list 2018s. ;)

    Enjoy!

Good news. My dealer that refused to flash the “automatic only” update didn’t have a problem doing TSB-0125-18. Only had a quick ride home but the throttle response and power delivery up to redline is now very consistent and smooth. No more surge. Much nicer.

    simple things for now
I got them to do it. At work now so I don't have my paperwork, but will snap a pic of the invoice when I get home. I went in on Mon the 5th for my 5k service and mentioned a surge between 1st and 2nd shift and some idling issues. They had it for about 1 1/2 hours and I was on my way. Truck is much better but I am having to re-adjust my driving habits to get used to it

Took my 2018 to DCH Toyota City in Mamaroneck, NY for my 5K service. I explained the symptoms as written on each TSB, printed out and provided both TSBs and explained the mixed experience other customers were having at other dealerships. They said they test drove it and felt no symptoms, and refused to apply the update as it does not apply to my truck and that it's only for the automatics.

It took more time to test drive than it would have to just do the right thing.

Please update the map with these jokers.
