Check with the Carista or OBD Fusion apps. You should be on 04A71.

What ever happened to backwards compatibility?!

 

So, for the $100 you spent paying for the update, and the cost of the Carista plus subscription, you could have just gotten a Tactrix and did it yourself. Then... if you decide to go OVT, you would only have to buy the software/license.

 

Probably some agreement to make the deal happen, get a pricing discount, and / or get the volume that he needed?

Well, I paid $100 for the "update" from Santa Cruz Toyota and just ran my ECM with Carista. I got the following codes that do not match with the TSB.
Instrument cluster
Cal. ID: 8380004L7000

Am I missing something?

EDIT: I realized my ignition was in the first position and not in the "ON". Re-ran Carista and it pulled up my engine calibration ID: 04A7100 !!

So they did do the update. The last two days I've felt the power come on in second gear around 1800 RPM, which feels much better than stock.

 

You're looking for this:


Instead of 04B13, you're looking for 04A71. I believe the leading 89665 should be the same.

Since this is still apparently an issue. If there is anyone still needing this in Phoenix/Northern AZ, I have a Tactrix cable and TS and the files and I'm willing to help out still. I've done a couple in the Phoenix area for people.

 

He mentions 04B70 and 04B71 but doesn't mention anything about 04A70 - 04A71

 

Obvious typo, esp if the author happened to be a left handed dyslexic.

On the Toyota side, it will not allow you to load an inappropriate tune file. Totally foolproof other than what is noted in the OP. So, the ECU can be bricked if breaking too many of those cautions. Thankfully, we now have ways to unbrick it.

On the OVT side, it was said that someone trying hard enough can load an inappropriate file. But, it is said that official tune releases cannot brick an ECU. Most of the cautions in the OP do not apply.

Those differences are interesting.
