Just remember that the shorter strut goes on the driver side and the longer one on the passenger side. Have a great weekend!

I look at it as a safety feature and as such, justified the modest investment. As I am 6'4" tall, and no more than a week or two before I installed these, I whacked my head on the corner of the hood, hurt like a mofo. After the install, not only is that stupid prop rod out of the way, the hood is well out of the reach of my now healed forehead.
I will say, this is something that should NOT be missing from a $40K vehicle.

Japan in general does not believe in the strut.

    Our Avalon has them?

There are exceptions to be sure, especially on the Avalon which is 75% a Lexus product. But generally speaking you don't find hood struts on Japanese vehicles.

I actually bought these before my truck came in last summer. At first I didn't put them on with the blitz of pre purchased items. I got bored one Saturday afternoon and put them on a few weeks after. I do like them the installation was simple. They raise the hood higher than the prop rod and no rod in the way.
I know they all say toyota is so reliable you don't need to lift the hood much. It's nice for doing your own work and they should last a long time. With the Tacoma you still have the rod as a back up.
My Jeep was well over ten years old when I had to replace the struts on the hood and rear glass.

Lots of Japanese reliability is based on simplistic cars(less things there are, less things to fail), a stick never goes bad.

It's from an old Audi commercial that mocked the other brands' typical owners. I found their characterization of my M3 driving to be spot on.

Regarding the need to open the hood I expect to need to do that task at least once a year for the 10,000 mile oil change!

If your a regular visitor on TW checking out all the mods that members are doing then you are most likely under the hood quite often. I had my Taco for 2 years before I installed these struts. should have done it sooner.

Agreed, and gas struts typically lose about 2% of their charge annually making them wear items that if not maintained/replaced could potentially hurt someone. I know I've had the pleasure of an old Cherokee hatch falling on me from worn struts.

Nonetheless, I'll be purchasing these soon.

I’ve had mine on for a little less than a year. Don’t open the hood too much but they still work great and this kit is completely reversible if you don’t like it.

So far so good. I have them on two trucks now. I love the no drill solution.
