    Hey Folks,

Short version: I am selling my 2006 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner. It is an access cab model with the 2TR-FE 2.7L 4 cylinder with a 5 speed manual. 106,6XX miles. I am the second owner, and I have owned it since 2011. It is a Southern / Southwestern truck and has no rust. It is in really great shape, receives compliments, and is fun to drive.

This is a base model truck. I added the toyota OEM cruise control and intermittent wipers with help from this forum when I bought it. I think the black bumpers / grill / fender flares look great in contrast with the sliver streak mica paint.

I had a detroit truetrac limited slip diff professionally installed last fall (about 1500 miles ago), and it works great. This is an adult owned truck that has been well taken care of.

I am selling the tacoma because I recently purchased an 80 series land cruiser that I want to sink some money into (I am already on a first name basis with the local toyota dealer's parts counter ). I currently have four vehicles in a two person household (my wife is cool... but I don't want to push my luck too far!).

I have the vehicle listed locally on CL, and cars.com, but I would love it if it went to a tacoma person off tacomaworld. I have the AutoCheck report and I can email it to you, just let me know.

    106,6XX miles

Second Owner (AutoCheck is calculating 3 owners b/c it is counting a third owner when the truck was titled / registered in New Mexico in the fall of 2013 – that was me moving back home from Louisiana).

    5 speed manual transmission

    Title: Clean, no liens.

    Interior Upgrades:

Installed Toyota OEM cruise control and intermittent wipers (base models did not come with these two options)

    Pop & Lock tailgate lock

    Dee Zhee bed mat

    Wheel locks

    Spare tire lock

    Maintenance and repairs:

Regular oil changes with Mobil 1 synthetic oil

Radiator flushed and filled on 10/24/12 at 68,000 miles

Tires installed at 80,000 miles: 50k miles rated (at about ½ life). Hankook Dynapro ATM’s P265 70 r16. Lifetime balancing, rotations, and repairs at discount tire (transferable to new owner).

    Cons:

    Missing two wheel center caps

Has a slight rear main seal leak. It is a slow drip, and you don’t have to add oil between oil changes. I had Toyomasters in Albuquerque check it out last Friday 03/25/16. They said the rear main seal could be replaced for $530.00. However, they didn’t think it was anything to worry about, and pointed out the fact that the rear main seal is replaced during a clutch change, so they would recommend waiting until that time. The clutch is currently in good shape.

    Additional Information:

I have owned this truck since August, 2011. I bought it from a large ebay dealer in Houston, TX sight unseen, and have been very happy with it. I lived in Louisiana at the time, and registered it there until September, 2013 when I moved back to NM. When I moved back to NM, I had a fairly big 80 mile round trip commute, so in September, 2014 I bought a compact car to use as a daily driver, and have just been using the Tacoma as a weekend rig since that time. The roughest thing I have taken it on were forest service roads, I never abused it. I think one thing that sets this truck apart is the 4 cylinder with 5 speed manual transmission. I have really enjoyed the drive train on this truck. The manual is fun to shift, and the engine produces nice useable low end torque. The 2TR-FE has a timing chain (versus a timing belt with the 4.0l V6), and runs on low octane unleaded. If you like manuals, you know that they are becoming more and more difficult to find. Another advantage is the Detroit TrueTrac limited slip differential I had installed last fall. The 2006 prerunner’s did not come with limited slip rear diffs from the factory, just an open diff. The truetrac is automatic, and doesn’t have any harsh behaviors on dry pavement, and requires no additional maintenance or adjustment. If you lift a rear tire, you can use the parking brake to still get it to lock. While the Prerunner TRD Offroad’s had a selectable locker, their rear diff isn’t as stout.

My reason for selling is that an FJ80 Landcruiser recently followed me home, and I am now up to four vehicles in a two person household, so I want to shed a vehicle. It was a tough decision. The Tacoma has been incredibly reliable, and is fun to drive, and looks great. I get complements on it frequently. There aren’t a lot of access cabs on the road, and it seems like Toyota mostly sold double cab second gen. Tacomas. I think the lines on the access cab look a lot better, and the black bumpers and fender flares of the base model look good in contrast with the silver paint.
