Hey Matt, how do you like the KM2's? Are they pretty loud on pavement? I like the look of the 255/85's on your set up a lot and those are some of the only tires in that size I've been able to find.

Another reason to stay away from a BAMF product, fucker can't even drill a 1/2" hole

I'd suggest scraping some paint to get the ground down to bare metal and make sure any extra coax cord is not looped around or it will cause issues.

CB isn't a big deal for me right now but I'll take care of it fairly soon and we'll see.

I like them. Fairly reasonable noise, but they are a M/T so expect some hum at speed. The only problem I've noticed is they are a little squirrelly during emergency braking because of their narrow width.

There are a decent amount of choices for 255/85/16 or 255/80/17, some places just don't have them. Off the top of my head, the choices include:

    • BFG KM2's
    • Cooper ST Maxx's
    • Toyo Open Country M/T's
    • GY Wrangler A/T's
    • Maxxis Bighorn's

Some information for my info, as the KM2 in 255/85 is being discontinued :(

    Toyo Open Country M/T:
    • Diameter: 33.5''
    • Width: 10.2''
    • Weight: 60#
    • Tread: 19/32''
    • Pro's: Reviews say they are quiet and have great traction.
    • Con's: At 60#, very heavy, and 5# heavier each than my KM2's. Expensive.

    Cooper ST Maxx:
    • Diameter: 32.8''
    • Width: 8.15''
    • Weight: 53#
    • Tread: 18/32''
    • Pro's: Reviews say good traction, lighter weight, more of a A/T.
    • Con's: Skinnier, less tread depth.

May add more tires, but this is a start to deciding my next tire. Not many tire (offroad especially) choices anymore in this size...

As far as the prices, they aren't too relevant to me. When you're spending 850+, a difference of a hundred or so isn't important to me, as I'd rather spend a little more or less and choose the right tire for performance and my liking. Just how I look at it.

    They are :(

    :anonymous:

Nope…but I would rather wait a little longer to save a little more and be happier with a product (tires) that will be on my truck for at least 3 years instead of regretting not spending more and having a product I don't like.

Prices are pretty different between the two though. Around $205 for the Cooper's most places, then around $260 for the Toyo's.

I'm actually leaning towards the Coopers right now for cost and weight. Weight is really killing me right now. But I guess that's what you get with putting on armor and having an offroad capable truck...

That's what I was getting at between the two. I looked at the Toyos and knew they were pricey, and when you times it by 4 or 5 it adds up. I'm very happy with my Cooper maxxs. My plan is to purchase the 255s again when the time comes cuz of my matching full size spare, then when the second set goes I'll order the Maxxs in 315/70. Unless anything else grabs my attention along the way.

The toyos are a great tire on and offroad, only downsize is weight and price. My 285s I had on for a few years held up great and never once limited me on the trails, even in the tough wet rocky and slick shit. I hear great things about the Coopers too so to me it's really a matter of if you want to spend the extra coin. Also the Toyos come siped from the factory which helps on wet and icy roads (they are a M&S rated tire)

KM2's are apparently coming back in July/August as BFG is redesigning some things (apparently to make it Euro legal), so I will either be getting another set of KM2's when currents wear out or the Cooper's. I've determined I really need to be conscious of weight additions as my truck is becoming a pig.

I might even just get the Cooper's since I really don't need mud tires for my 95% DD'ing.

Someone said something to me once that totally makes sense. Weight of a tire only matters when stopping and going, once the tire is rolling the weight is irrelevant. Last year I did a lot of highway commuting so when it came time to the Maxxs I didnt care bout weight.

I definitely care about the stopping part :) My truck has a hard enough time stopping as it is. Even with the EBC Stage 5.

So now I guess I'm just making the decision for more of an A/T versus a M/T between the Cooper's and KM2's. We'll see.
