Honestly OP I feel most 3rd gen owners (who constantly complain) have unrealistic expectations for a V6 4x4 truck. For example "the transmission hunts like crazy when I am driving at 75 80 mph", yes the truck can drive at a 100 mph but that is not what it was designed to do. That is way too fast for such a vehicle as the Tacoma. Everyone's driving style is different so I would take SOME NOT ALL of the transmission issues with a grain of salt simply. Some drivers can't wait to get to a red light fast enough and aggressive driving in any vehicle but especially a truck is going to result in a lot of transmission shifting.

I like to drive my truck on the highway at +highway speeds.. say 80-90mph... I get shit for MPGs and if I didn't have a tighter suspension, the truck isn't all that stable at those speeds so yeah, not safe either....I agree just cause I can go that fast doesn't mean its optimal and I should expect that its not optimal. So back to expectations... it's a truck and for a truck I think it rides and drives GREAT for a pick up truck.

@Trapperjay , go get it re-flashed to the latest update. No problem on my end, seems to me that everyone on this forum likes to complain about nothing. I came from a beat down 2003 Silverado and the new Tacoma is a dream for me. Our trucks biggest flaw to me is a lack of android auto and apple carplay. Come on out trolls I am ready for you haha.

I would agree with you except that I've owned several other V6 trucks (Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacomas) and none of them have been quite as quirky and annoying as this 3rd gen

@smitty99 at least you don't have the passenger side dash rattle... man that's THE most annoying rattle I've ever had in a truck... and that's including the floor board rattle from rusted out floor boards in my old 67 Ford Bronco....<-- was also fun to drive.

Don't feed into what most of the fucktards on here are complaining about or you'll get a bad case of automotive hypochondria. You'll know if something isn't right. My 2016 TRD OR MT is my 6th Tacoma and has had less issues than both 2nd gens and the 3 1st gens I've owned. (All were purchased new). The only real issue I had with my '16 was the stock leaf springs squeaking and i resolved that by replacing them with Dakars.

The 2014 had a transmission that was first used and designed for a V8 and also the dual vvti 4.0L V6 with more torque than the 3.5L van motor.

It was also the transmission in the million Mile tundra, but to be fair the reverse gear did give out at only 750,000 miles.

The "new" 6-speed is also used in the 2.7L and is a wimpy turd that Toyota wanted for MPG purposes. Aisin really screwed up and the trans is junk but the fanboys don't care that they have an inferior product.

There have been 3rd gen transmissions replaced before 1000 miles. And old trusty 4-speed A340s are hitting 300k with NO maintenance. Don't tell me Toyota is still building a product to last.

You made a mistake selling your 2014 so just bite the bullet and get a 2015 to replace it.

Anyway, happy hunting.....For your new truck and your gears if you do get a 3rd gen auto.

You replaced OEM leafs with aftermarket leafs that are notorious for being noisemakers. Good call.

Not one squeak out of them. Before I installed them I broke them down and did the bicycle tube between each leaf and installed OEM rubber bushings and they don't make a sound. A little effort goes a long way.

After reading through multiple threads and posts about transmission issue this transmission issue that, it seems lots of people are just feeding off the paranoia. Coming from a 13 TRD sport and a 15 TRD sport I just picked up my 17 the other night(all autos) took it for a lengthy cruise around town and the highways and have no idea what the he'll people are complaining about.

That's not to say some people don't have issues but compared to my 15 this truck is a dream. I have no issues getting up to speed and or going up and down hills.

I hate the 15 transmission. Just my 2 cents.

This. I've had all sorts of cars, from a new Audi to a new Sierra.

My 2016 Sport is great. Sure, there are somethings I don't like (interior is cramped is my biggest complaint), but it drives fine. MPG is good and at the end of the day it's still a Tacoma so I know it'll have a good trade/resale value.

My transmission performed better when new. After 5k miles or so it learns and gets worse. A lot of people report improved trans performance when they just get it refreshed and the learning mode restarts.
