Tacoma owners never have "issues" with them. That's because they go out of adjustment and then do very little to no braking. And then they "last" for 225k miles.

Yea, no issues....No stopping power either.

What did you get for your '14? How many miles? Just curious as I was half interested in trading in my '13 w/ 37k miles on a TE T4R.

Will I be shunned if I admit my wife drives a Prius? Granted she wants to drive the truck and I told her during the summer she can do whatever she wants since I can take my cycle.

First off I want to thank everybody for their input! I used the truck for my trapping business and I retired and moved from NY to PA
and thought it was time to move on and buy a car (A Lexus) but I've always been a truck guy. Me and the wife still drive back from
NY to PA monthly and driving back from NY last week we both agreed we miss the taco, So looking to buy a 2017 I just wanted to see whats going on with the 3rd Gen's and read some of the issues about the transmission.

Now the problem is what color, inferno, cement or black

I had an 06 but had to trade to a corolla for committing to work. Last summer I retired from my trade and became self employed from home. That said I needed another truck. I had been looking st the new Tacomas on line for a year in advance and now I had the chance to test drive one. The dealership had a demo trd sport.
Because I have 25 year relationship with this dealer, I had no problem taking it on a 3 hour tour. I loved the new look, all the new gizmos and quiet ride.
What I didn't like was the lack of response apon mashing the accelerator from a stop. I mean it was like blaaa... The other thing I didn't like was the weird shift points in the tranny. Ok now one the revs were up over 3000, the truck really wanted to go like there was no tomorrow.
I wanted a "truck" for towing and hauling, I wanted torque on the bottom to merge into traffic with heavy load but I don't want a full size truck.
I don't go much faster than 60 mph....
I test drove a 2013 Limited and found my truck.

LMAO....What dealer do you go to where this is true? Maybe I can ship my truck there.....Toyota doesn't acknowledge any of the common problems listed in the sticky "common problems" post on this forum. Rear end howl, brakes that pulsate like driving on a rumble strip...all normal according to them. BUYER BEWARE.

Ah-ah, I know what you're thinking, "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I've kind of lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum -- the most powerful handgun in the world -- and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?

Sorry to go off topic but Dirty Harry is one of my favorite movies!

Sad part is the auto transmission is a learning experience, it learns things from how you drive, so a test drive less than about 1000 miles may not help much. My 2017 trans sucks, cruises around town at 1200 rpm 6th gear on the hay is 2500. The power band comes on at 3ooo and makes power at 4500. You have to really be into it hard, lots of times, sometimes it scares me with the lack of power and an appropriate down shift, like pulling into traffic from a 2nd gear roll. Nice truck, unusual power train. Im getting almost 22 at 85 on a flat florida road. Sounds like a sewing machine, lots of wind noise on my model. Read more posts!

After 1200 miles, my shifting has smoothed out in my '17 AT AC.

I can't say this enough, the gas pedal is stiff out of the gate. Put a little effort into it and it shifts on average around 2.3-2.5K RPMs until you let off around 4th gear. Gas mileage sits around 19-20 for me driving it like that.

The tranny is built to raise MPG but that's easily overcome with your right foot.
