Delrin knob installed. Perfect fit and craftsmanship!

Also dechromed the ring around the shift boot to make it all match better.

    Thanks!

Delrin is also easier on your hands in the summer if the car has been baking in the sun all day long.

You are very welcome. Clean pics, too! Delrin isn't very photogenic.

Nice job @7r41lbr34k3r great to see craftsmanship is still alive!

Do you have any specs for the connection? The part between the knob and the shift rod/boot? I have a 3D printed shift knob in mind but want to retain the OEM boot look. Also, I suppose whatever I print out will have to have a nut inside correct? I'm sure I can add that to the print to accommodate one.

Then finally, how much is the connection piece?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Thanks!

I have a few options going on in this thread, so to remove any ambiguity do you have a sketch of roughly what you need?

Also, my designs do not use nuts. Happy to help, though.

    Okay, unexpected development here.

I was just offered a new position that would require me to take a hiatus from this, and I am probably going to take it.

I will get back to this if I can find a temporary solution, because I am about to lose access to my lathes. I can make no promises, and I will be on vacation next week (most likely) just so I don't lose it when switching jobs.

All activity is ceasing after today until further notice.

I can still mill stuff though in my garage, obviously ... but the knobs really need a lathe.

Will do, but just an FYI ... delrin might not be good in cold weather. It is more for warmer weather folk who do not want to burn(or chill) their hands on metal.

There would be risk of the black material splitting if it contracted enough under extreme cold, and I believe that temperature is around -40 where the material properties begin to break down. If I had the means to test it, I certainly would do so.

Delrin for the black only? Hmm, I use delrin at work! lol
Thanks for the concern, maybe I will wait till this winter and put a sheet out in the cold weather and see how it reacts.
UNLESS i can be a guinea pig and I'll pay shipping at least :anonymous:

ps. I don't mind burning or chilling my hands, were used to EXTREME temps up here.

The material itself would be fine, it is more the context of the design. It would have aluminum threaded into it, and delrin shrinks much more rapidly than aluminum so there is a chance that it would split around the aluminum core. The material itself is fine for interference fits, but nearing its minimum operating temperature there is no way of knowing what will happen until it is tested.
