That would solve my main complaint with Subarus. The AWD is nice, the cars are simple and utilitarian... But that stupid boxer engine, every time you wanna have fun that thing is standing in the way

It's just an over complicated and ultimately weak design. When people make them closed deck they get a bit stronger but you still have all the boxer quirks and problems eventually.

Yup head gaskets, rings and ring lands, poor oiling, they claim to be boost friendly but that ends up breaking rods and headgaskets before it even gets all that competitive power wise

missed your post, my bad. i still like the car entirely, i just want something 4 door though and a v8 next, both of those are my major driving factors. 4 doors will make things more family friendly (the gf wont even get in the car cause she doesnt like it, plus a kid is the future i think).

i will probably end up with her e36 325i and LS swap it after buying another e46.

i'd like to know more about BMWs. They have always interested me, but I've heard such biased things against them i never considered them as an option.

i like the looks of the car but thats about it so far, hahaha. its so finicky and having to learn an entire new platform has been irritating to say the least.

i dont know. My brother in law had me take care of his 2001 330 coupe while he's out of the country and uummm, personally i wouldn't own one. So much trouble for something that's not even modded. My buddy who owns a body shop and restores classics , he hated taking care of his wife's BMW's. If it's one thing it's another. He told his wife no more BMW's and got rid of them.

Honestly, there are probably more BMW owners out there that have great experiences with their cars but man, i just have friends who continuously have issues with BMW cars ranging from 2000-Present.

definitely seems to be a common theme sometimes. the e36 has given me some issues like that too, but i think it was just needing some TLC maintenance

Older bimmers like E36 are nothing but a financial burden in stock form, if you LS swap them they lose the creature comforts fast but they become reliable too haha. Everything breaks on them though, BMW is entry level luxury and it really shows in their old age. Most of their components were never designed to last over 10 years, especially not all the plastic they use in the engine cooling systems. They expect people to lease or trade in ever 3-5 years and maybe one more owner buys them then retires them for good. BMW vehicles have been the root of more than a few financial pains in the ass in my family haha.

figured it should become reliable at that point too, lol. shouldnt have to lose creature comforts. power steering,a/c, and heat are all viable from what ive seen.

part of me doesnt think ill like the car in some aspects, i feel like parts are getting dated/harder to find and i dont necessarily want to deal with that. but maybe a ls with 500hp could make that worth it.

if i had the money id go buy a dodge charger srt hands down and look into a manual swap

got the fuel pump changed in the integra. finally explains why i always had positive trims, because even with the pump running full time (motor off) it couldnt generate enough pressure to over come the regulator. ended up having to disconnect the supply line to drain the whole tank.

it now has some 12afrs so a bit rich for n/a (i think 13.2 is the goal?) damn does the car scoooooot now though. i should have done it when i swapped the motor in but i was lazy. 3rd gear wheelspin with full throttle :burnrubber:

idk if i should sell it now, its a whole new animal

installed the oil pressure sensor for the prosport gauge yesterday. that wasnt very fun with the engine in the car. no leaks today, haha

wired up the gauge this evening for oil pressure and moved them closer to the cluster. they block the non-working speedo so no big deal.

checked all my wheel bearings tonight for good measure. Hoping to use a trailer from work for the event. plenty big for the car and i can haul stuff in the truck instead of trying to stuff it in the car.

Things to do before the track this weekend
    • change oil
    • loosen/grease/tighten all suspension again
    • find battery terminal covers/tighten the battery hold down more
    • pack up - extra fluids, jack, jackstands, tools
    • rebalance tires
