I got this Power Tailgate lock for Christmas and never got around to install it. I'm moving to a camper that deletes my Tailgate so I don't need the power lock anymore.

This kit will unlock and lock your tailgate with the rest of the doors with your remote.

This kit is OEM from Toyota which means it's all plug n play. No measuring and splicing wires, no soldering wires, it's ready to install. All the wires are sleeved and heatshielded from factory. The actuator is quiet and not as loud and obnoxious like all the aftermarket options out there.

This is a must if you use your tailgate regularly like I did before. It's 2021, this should've come equipped with all Tacomas.

I paid $180 with taxes and shipping.
    Asking Price: $150 Shipped

    Payment: Venmo, Zelle, Paypal (family/friend)

Is this plug and play on all year models?
    Your location?

I recently installed this kit. So freaking easy! They did a great job putting it together and making it super simple.

I don't have my 2021 yet, and was looking into this. I was just told by the dealer it would be $450 in labor to install. This is their explanation: "the key lock has to be sync [sic] with a special tool, so it responds to the truck with the remote." Truth or lie?

I'd stop going to that dealer. It is a simple plug and play. If you can get up and down off the ground and operate a wrench to unfasten the tailgate panel, you can do it yourself. Will take 30-60 min.

It plugs into the harness that the passenger front door does, so there is no syncing or tool required. When the passenger door gets locked/unlocked, the tailgate does too. The hardest part of the install was getting the new plastic pieces that hold the wiring harnesses in place between the tailgate and the bed. Kind of a tight squeeze and a little awkward. Also getting to the rubber bung under the passenger door pushed out and the wires pulled through was a little awkward, as you're going blind under the carpet. But both of those were minor inconveniences.

Can you take the tailgate off and put those plastic pieces in before plugging it into the actuator?

I didn't try that. Probably not any easier, since you'd have to unplug everything, remove it, etc. It's not that hard to get those in. Just a little annoying.
