Got the Dakar heavy duty leaf packs installed today. The ride is surprisingly smooth. I like it better than the AAL for sure. Took me about two hours to install the drivers side, due to the learning curve, an hour to do the passenger side. Well worth the money.

Before measurement with progressive AAL & overload - 24.5”

    After: 25.25”

Thanks to @assaultrecon28 for his install write up.

Had a day off and all to myself - rare combination. Got around to doing a few maintenance items on the truck.

Changed the front brakes. Added Hawk HPS pads and Brembo blank rotors. Greased the UCAs, put some tri-flow dry lube on the uniball and went over almost every nut and bolt on the truck to make sure it’s all torqued to spec.

Since it’s not my daily driver, she’s nestled back in the garage with old glory. Good day.

P2443 code hit me at 24k miles, replaced the secondary air injection pump and valves under warranty. Just hit 42k miles tonight and got the P2443 AGAIN. off to the dealer tomorrow morning at 8 AM - unreal. Keep you posted. They took very good care of me last time, and I expect the same treatment. But WTF man...

Quick update about the secondary air injection failure... my truck has 42k miles on it, so no warranty there. And the last set of pumps and valves were installed one year and three weeks ago... so no warranty there... (warranty was one year on the parts) So, my dealer is covering the new shit - $1692 and I’m covering labor - roughly $400.

They’re still working with corporate to see if theyll cover labor too, but I won’t know that until tomorrow.

got the truck back today. New secondary air injection pump & valves are in. Toyota covered the parts, I had to pay labor. I am glad to have my truck back, but sucks that I had to pay $400 out of pocket. I have to say, my dealer stepped up for me once again and I’m very happy with how they handled it. Technically, they didn’t owe me a cent. I have a lifetime warranty on the motor and transmission, but it does not cover the SAIS - so they offered me a bumper to bumper lifetime warranty for $2,000 - anyone have thoughts on that? It will cover any further failures and a bunch of other stuff for as long as I own the truck. OR I wait for Hewitt-tech to finish their delete kit and roll the dice....

Bumper looks amazing! Truck looks amazing! I’m interested in this Toyota warranty you speak of. I mean bumper to bumper warranty for $2k?! What’s the fine print haha

Yeah, there is some FinePrint. It will not cover any of my suspension modifications. But it will cover the secondary air injection system my motor and transmission are already covered so it covers things like electronics headlights driveshaft U joints etc.

Well suspension stuff I would understand, but does it add to the Powertrain warranty?

No, it doesn’t add to it... my engine and trans are excluded since they’re already covered. I’d be covering the SAIS and electronics & a few little things.

I would have pushed Toyota more, they enhanced the warranty coverage for 2012s with the SAIS problem. That’s bullshit you had to pay anything for it failing. They know it’s bad and it can fail on any truck, not just the 12’s.

Any idea on why it failed?

I pushed as far as I could man. Technically, they didn’t owe me anything, but I can still call Toyota Corporate myself and talk with them. Might do that just so they’re aware this is my second complete failure in a year.

Yeah man crazy $$ for super simple parts. Blows my mind. They couldn’t tell me anything other than it was the valves that failed. Specifically, they were stuck closed.

I would, I know it specifically says 2012 models but they know the pumps fail. I would just keep on them.

I will, and I’ll keep all the records, I’ve heard of them reimbursing people for this kind of work. My guess is it will inevitably cover 13-15 as well. :fingerscrossed:
