I have two Autometer gauges that are very bright at night (Boost / AFR ).

Can I solder a resistor or something inline with the gauge light 12v positive wire? If so, what size resistor should I get that will dim the Autometer gauges around 50% of the brightness they are now?

Apologize for my electrical ignorance on the matter.

Get the number off the bulbs. Then look on a bulb spec chart and find a bulb the same type and voltage, that is lower candlepower or watts.

Why don`t you have them wired into the Rheostat to dim with the other gauge lights .

You can use OHM`s law to figure out what resistor you need though what your math tells you might be to dark that is why a rheostat works much better

I was not looking to disassemble the gauges, thus voiding warranty :(

I tried that but it doesn't work.
The Autometer gauges have a white wire and a black wire specifically for the lights. When I wired them to the dimmer, it has a reverse effect (dim dash lights, autometer gauges get brighter & when I turn up the dash lights, autometer gauges gets dimmer. Upon further reading, the way Toyoya's dimmer works, I cannot make it dim the Autometer gauges.

Figure out what Rheostat you need and install that for your autometer gauges.

Going the resistor method might be some trial and error even doing the match

So if the lights fail you toss the gauges ??

Not sure where to go about finding the right Rheostat?

Of the bulbs fail, of course I would open them up (after warranty). Gauges are brand new atm, not looking to open them up is all.
