Does anyone know the difference between an 1987 Wagoneer vs a 1987 Grand Wagoneer? or perhaps the wagoneer vs grand wagoneer in general when it comes to axles. I know one turns into the (cherokee) like body style. But are they both running d44 up front?

hmmmm their is a 9" center with d60 outers in my area for cheap........

whats the downside of running a 9 center on a second gen????

I know you gain more clearance on a 9" center - you still have the strength of a d60 outer as thats what it is........

Pretty sure the axles are the exact same. The difference was one was more luxury (grand) with a bigger motor option.

What is the price? In reality... it's not a good buy.. Is it even driver side drop?

Why it's not good: You are now leaving your weakest link in the ring and pinion which is never a good thing.

Everything i've read - goes back and forth. I'm just gonna go check it out and pull the BOM numbers off and look those up.

B.O.M. number. It tells you the Bill of Materials for the axle...hence BOM

    Mark, I think I owe you a new 1" breaker bar.

I finally got the kingpins off, but now there's a slight bend in the breaker bar. Cracked one of the KPs in the process as well.

And I am not too worried as long as its not too bad.

I wouldn't say there is a downside to running it. Really depends how hard you wheel. Is it a Spidertrax housing or stock Ford 9 with D60 ends welded on? Price? Driver drop?

Brian, did your D44 steer very well? (As in degree of turning) Mine just plain sucks. I have the reid racing knuckles and I never ground down the steering stops. I have my ram limited about 1/16" before the stops too, but the thing just cannot turn... It's about as bad as a f-350 longbed :(

Eric-as I said its an easy fix.

    1. Cut the whole cast stop off the Reid knuckles.
    2. Turn Wheel until axle u-joint begins to bind.
    3. Reduce internal ram spacer to new length.
    4. Enjoy tighter turning radius.

Yes I am going to do that, but you have my grinder :D

Won't get much turning anyway since the fucking leaf springs will limit it

But no time to do links. And really I don't even know which end to link...

Obviously the pros will be the same for each axle... mostly

Cons for front: gotta cut off my new hydro mount... minimal space with a D44..

Cons for back: 4 link rear (gotta move gas tank)... A good pro of the back is that I can move my wheelbase down to about 121" or so.. can't really move the wheel base with the tank in the way, could still 3 link, but why 3 link when the tank is moved?.. With the front I can't move my WB and I am once again a limo..

I think I just need to re-do the rear and get some bedsides, it won't look as funky :D
