Yeah i don't know about 4.88's with 37's I'm running 5.29's and 37's and it's perfect. I still have to down shift up grades I didn't have to when i was IFS with stock gears and 33's.

Now add 37's and 4.88's and you will be in 3rd on those grades. 37's 5.29's are the way to go.

Oh yeah? Go ahead and listen to 4WP and let me know how that works for ya. I've been researching and reading information on swapped Tacomas back when TTORA was on delphi forums (roughly 10+ years ago). My last 1998 Tacoma had a D44 Waggy axle swap with 4.88 gears and a manual transmission with the bone stock 3.4. For a good portion of its life, it had 37" Goodyear MT/Rs too. I can say even with the manual transmission, I had to downshift on grades. It will be even worse with the automatic. Clearly you've done plenty of research  I've been there done that, kid.

My new truck is a 2001 double cab V6 and I've got 5.38's going in front and rear on 40" tires. It will put me a little faster than stock power by the numbers but with the added weight it will be slower than stock. I would have gone with 5.89 gears front and rear but the 14 bolt will only go as low as 5.38's.

If you've done enough re-search on TTORa then you have obviously talked to Hyperior and various other members who chat in the SAS section.

lol many of those members approves the 4:88 for my setup.
I don't remember asking what your going to be running in the "future" but thanks for the info-
Ironically you made a large attempt to put a "coma" right before kid "emphasizing -kid-"
As if 29 years of age makes you an old wise man hahahah funny one

How about you stop worrying about what i'm doing and keep ongoing with your future plant on 40s ;)

I was never against 5:29, im just not gonna run mix matched gears!!

    also
I'm not asking what ratio gears i should run - the guy even clearly quoted me saying "i officially decided i'm running 4:88"

some people also take tin snips to their fenders........

Who is Hyperior? You mean Hytenor? He is my friend Chris and I've wheeled with him countless times.

Your attempt at calling me out on my "soon to be" built Taco was feeble at best.

Future plant? Not really sure why I'm even replying, you can't even spell comma or research right. Obviously you're doing the right thing by listening to sound opinions from other "professionals."

I plan to go with 4.88's with my 33's. Everything I've ever read said that if you plan to go 35's, 4.88's work good but 5.29's are better. So with 37's, I wouldn't go anything less than 5.29's. I'm also the type of person that would rather have the extra torque on the low end and just put up with a higher rpm on the highway.

Yes i was referring to hytenor, idk why but i always think of hyperior when i see his name.

You obviously enjoy trolling forums and attempting to be-little people.
And yes - i do enjoy the opinions of those who have my engine, transmission, and my future setup.

there's also a guy on here or TTOra who runs 5:29 with 33s and says he loves it.
I have my stock gears with 33s and that works just fine!!! Off the road and on the freeway.

I don't troll, I simply inform I, and it looks like others, are still suggesting lower gears yet you're ignoring it. That's fine, the only way to learn is to jump in head first.

You really think homie behind a desk at 4WP who owns a Jeep with a bunch of bolt-ons is going to know a damn thing about a V6 automatic double cab on 37's?

Yet again I'm not asking for your opinion on gears.

What's with you trying to criticize people?? The guy I spoke with happened to have a 04 tacoma. You truly enjoy trying to put people down don't you?

I'm going to second what several have said about 4wp. I've been in three of their stores and talked to one customer service rep on the phone. None of them knew their ass from a hole in the ground when it came to anything beyond a bolt on modification that came in a pretty cardboard box and instructions that even a 7 year old could follow. The fact that they didn't know the answers I needed didn't bother me and I was fine with that. What made them untrustworthy to me is that they kept trying to give advice when they clearly had no idea what they were talking about. I'm sure they also give that same ill-advice to people that don't have a clue and they follow it blindly.

I'm not saying every 4wp employee fits this reputation, but of the dozen or so I've been around, I haven't found one of them that was humble enough or mature enough to say "I don't know" if they didn't know the answer.

One of my jobs is Les Schwabs - I know so many people who think of them as a bunch of crooks and morons lol and of course we have customers who love our service and pay retail without complaining

    <------ 37s, 5.29s, auto.

If anything, I wish I was geared lower and not just for crawling. Simply for better driving behavior around town. I dearly miss the power and mpg I had with 35s and 5.29s. I cannot imagine how much 37s and 4.88s would suck. Unless you drive like a grandma in town (not dissing it if you do:p) or enjoy cruising freeways at 90, I vote 5.29/5.38 for your application.

Strictly in ratio terms. 5.29s and 37s would be almost exactly the same final drive ratio as stock. Considering the fact that 37s have a LOT more rolling mass than stock tires, and you will be heavier in general with a SAC, lower gearing would help greatly. Along the same lines, you can't really expect 4.10s/33s and 4.88s/37s to behave the same way..... while final drive ratios are close to the same (4.88s/37s would be a hair lower), the difference in weight will cause the difference in power, mpg, shift points, etc...

To be honest..... If I were you, I'd be running 5.71s in the rear and 5.89s up front, but I'm crazy, I love low end torque, I have a lead foot in town, and don't mind cruising the freeway at 70. ;)
    x100

Mismatched gears is not a big deal, if they're that close.

Of course, it's your truck though.... Take it FWIW.
