What hydro assist is everyone running....I'm familiar with jeep jks and tjs I build those daily but my personal rig is a Tacoma again....

I see the hydro on the cheap, trail gear has one and my cost is good but not sure on real world use and quality....
Does the homebrew hydro work as good or well enough to not upgrade pump and system with trail gear ?

Would you guys say that leaf sprung SAS'd Tacomas are streetable as a DD? I ask because I have a friend who has SAS'd an E-350 and would help me do mine, but I'm not sure if it would be wiser to leave the Taco alone and try to buy a 79-84 model instead.

in all honesty you can sas with links or leafs and street it just deepends on how you set it all up. My advice is if you're unsure about building it your self just by a kit from sky or trail gear they aren't bad in price and perform well.

Absolutely if done correctly. My rig does 80 with one finger on the wheel all day.

It is dead simple and relatively inexpensive to swap a mini truck or 4Runner with a Toy axle. I'd argue that you are better off to buy an 86 and up truck so you get the ifs box and wider rear axle instead of paying a premium on an 85 and down.

but then he still has to sas it. In my opinion it's not any more work to sas a Tacoma then it is to sas an 86-94. just have to find a few more steering parts for the taco where as the older truck come with the correct steering. but it's off set by the tacomas coming with better motors and id much rather find/pay for a few extra steering parts now than do a motor swap down the road.

Hmm, that's an interesting idea. For some reason 2nd and 3rd gen 4Runners go pretty cheap around here, I don't know anything about coil sprung applications but it might be better to make my dedicated trail rig out of an old runner.

Sledge Hammer is a fun Trail for sure!!
We had to leave 3 rigs overnight on Sledge that night, didn't get back to camp until 2 in the morning and be back first thing in the morning. plus dealt with two flops on top of everything else that was going. Sledge kicked our asses that night!

this one was at the Plaque..

So dumb question for all of you? Could one put a Dana 44 on the front of a 2nd gen Tacoma and reliably run 37's? Or bigger?

Down the street... sure... Down a dirt trail... yeah... in mud... probably.... anywhere else? NOPE.

With the D44, the strength of it under a 2nd gen with 37s is like running 33s on your stock IFS... Not going to last if you actually wheel. I've seen a 2nd gen run 37s on a D44 but he babied it always, while I've seen a 2nd gen run a D60 on 37s and there was no gap between floor and skinny pedal for 1 year straight... And now he has 40s and he cut a hole in the floor so he could push the skinny pedal down even further (not srs...but srs) The choice is yours.

K thanks guys, I just saw a thread where a guy was putting one on front of a 1st gen I think and was curious. I really don't do much rock crawling to even justify it in the first place
