It's on pirate in the SD axle thread. General 4x4 thread. One of the last few pages!

    Edit:

Looks like its going into a pulling truck. The one in the background that green dodge. Appears he's running 2" axle shafts, probably will never break anything in that axle... lol. I'm sure the transmission is fine, hell if you build a good enough tranny there are diesels pushing 2k Hp through them... Run an atlas or hero 3... good enough. Meh, everything can and will break no matter what, oh well.

My tires rub that section in the fender too and I'm going to chop it out after I build the cage.

Wyatt, don't you know the new thing now is to go fast? Its far more fun and exhilarating driving fast! I used to own a 5 speed truck with a 4.7 dual case and for the most part, I would only use the 4.7 case in low and stock case in high. The stock case with a 5 speed is NOT low enough, fully agree there. Double low is just dumb slow and shouldn't be used for normal trail riding, only difficult optional lines. Sure with my stock case I'll do more 2 foot driving than you would with duals but I'm going to tune my shocks to allow me to drive at a normal pace

Oh heck yeah it's sweet. No doubt about that.

Couldn't agree with you more. I've been tempted to through a 14bolt under my beast but I haven't broken anything yet so why mess with it and get less ground clearance. At this point my Currie Rock Jock 60 rear is doing just fine.

Yes, torque, when applied to a fixed unit will most assuredly break stuff. No doubt about that. Torque is the twisting action that makes things turn. The more torque applied, the easier it is to turn a given object. Thus lower gears in a vehicle.

What I've seen and learned while building my truck is that with the lower gears I have now and it's associated higher torque figures, I've had far less breaks, Zero actually, than I did without the lower gears of a crawler. I'm not using the skinny pedal as much and I have far less wheel speed than I would use before to get up technical stuff.

I agree that when you apply more torque to a given stationary object like the following video that there is going to be a complete failure of something at sometime. But on the other hand that same torque applied to a moving object ( wheel and tire combo) at a slower speed it provides much more control over technical stuff, which is the whole reason automakers and construction equipment and farm tractors have used lower gears to help them push, pull, lift and drag stuff that shear horse power couldn't.

And yeah. It's a hoot to watch people hit that skinny pedal and explode stuff. LOL I just don't wanna be "That Guy" lol.

Don't go out after it rains :luvya:

I wheel the same terrain you do and I use the shit out of all the gears. I can only imagine what my truck would look like without the crawler!

Bullcrew: like Wyatt was saying the breakage level will go down dramatically with some low gears. Most of the damage on that list would probibly not have happened with the low gears. Pre crawler I was beating on my truck to get up and through stuff, things are so much easier with 20 gears!

LOL. I'm too old to go fast now. If I could put my lazy boy in my truck, put it in compound low, and have my cup of tea I'd be super happy. :D

LOL so true Wyatt! I'm not old (31) but i was talking with my wife as we were driving in my truck and we got on the subject of how much money it costs to make this truck go slow and i was mentioning multiply that by 10 to go fast! She gave me this "you better not be thinking of that" look and i told her don't worry, my balls aren't big enough to go speeding around off-road....
I do like wheeling around trails in double low with a beverage, tunes blasting and enjoying the scenery in the AC!

Plus the desert is too far away, and we have too many trees lining the trails LOL!!

Lol yes because it happened hauling through desert and whoops and if I were in low/low in the desert ID still be there driving home....

I understand what is being said and yes it slows down the situation And increases torque on stuff. They both have boundaries for sure and throw some heavy foot in there and stuff finds the fuseable link in either....
I have used wheel spin and acceleration to climb obstacles at hammers and in my old Tacoma used low/low to get over stuff....But I have used wheel spin, tire heating and good old fashioned propulsion to climb stuff as well....all depends on obstacle .....

Either way I will be doing duals but not right away I use it like it is and it works.....I have em just haven't been stuck yet but I'll do em cause I have em,..lol

You fuckers better learn how to drive once i SAS this thing, get a front locker, and some real tires LOL!!!

at the pace i move you have at least 10more years...

Yea you guys are nuts for doing that stuff. I accidentally hit a whoop bombing between trails at about 10mph, about shit myself and figured i broke something!!

Well im happy with the amount of up travel I have now. only thing is I have so much droop on the other side that when I hit that full limit and try and turn the tire all the way its all over the damn body. wouldn't have been so bad but I pushed the front axle forward like 5-6 inchs. once again it's hard to know for sure seeing how as im still using shoe laces to measure everything ;)

:anonymous: I used to be "That Guy" when I had my 94 The thing I broke most using controlled torque (i had dual case's) was the rear end blew 12 of those up in a 5 year period, and using the skinny pedal (7MGE engine swap) and seeing 8+ thousand rpms i mainly killed shock mounts and drive lines.

I think I've wheeled one time in my life when it was really dry. There are some obstacles that low crawl would of help, definitely. But, I've made almost every obstacle I've ever attempted. And the reason I didn't make those few was due to lack of hp. I could not get the wheels going fast enough. Slander, we need to wheel together... Haven't you wheeled with Mark, (nwitaco)? He wheels the same as me, but more aggressive. Literally pedal to the metal. WHEEL SPIN FTW.

I yardsaled my front end on a district 38 prerun on the PowerLine road...3 foot + whoops at 70mph....came in hot lost momentum slightly and turned just a bit...front driverside dug in and all I saw was sky...lol and lots of dirt of course. .....

I like crawling but going fast is also a blast so dual purpose build....not race truck fast and closer to a buggy.....

You picked the wrong days!! Yea I've wheeled with him a few times. Last time out I was yelling at him because he was bypassing stuff I was trying lol. I got stuck as hell, but I also don't have 40s and tons. We spent most of the day on parts runs and wrenching as one of the other dudes broke and marks steering was being dumb. I noticed you guys like to mess around in the quarry, I spend about 5mins there, get bored, run those rock gardens on the parimeter and go get lost in the woods.

Shoot me a message when you guys go and if I'm not doing anything I'm down.
