It's a good starter kit that's for sure. Scotty on pirate makes them looking really nice. I don't recommend TG anything however..., it's a good starting point.

Just look at the build thread
My buddy runs that Trail Gear C kit on his rig. He upgraded the front to their three link kit after a short time though. It performs great on the links and the only thing he's ever broken is a hub gear. He puts it through its paces but doesn't beat on it. He also only runs 35s though.

Ok thanks for the info... This will be my first SAS and I'm pretty pumped, just having trouble finding a starting point. My tacoma is a pre runner so I will need a transfer case as well. How do the stock transfer cases hold up?

I bought one for $100, but I knew a guy. I'd say $250? 450 is really high IMO.

I thought so compared to eBay, but I've never bought anything like that on eBay.

200s a good price for a tacse. That's what I paid for mine when I needed a new one. You will have the same luck buying it off eBay as you would from a yard, its a crap shoot either way if you get a good one or not.

I hoard Tacoma/4Runner tcases and driveshafts whenever I'm visiting the Denver area junkyards. $75 for a tcase and $15 for driveshafts all day. :D

You beat on it because you have a 4cyl :) 4k to build a D44? One can build a stock D60 for cheaper than that but yes, buying a built 44 is the cheapest option.

Right... either way it does not matter, I've seen 22R destroy chromo 60 shafts... 83 hp... Funny thing is now, I am running more HP now than the 3.4L.

    gears - 200
    gear install - 300
    locker - 500
    chromo axles - 750
    longfield joints - 350
    locking hubs - 170
    master install kit - 175
    toyota flange - 100
    diff cover - 120
    brakes, calipers, pads - 150
    reid knuckles - 500
high steer arms and studs - 200
I also count the tie rod as front axle build - 100

I was gonna say something about those ARB's. That's the price of one.

I got lucky on my front, but paid full retail for the rear.

Yeah sold by the same guy, exactly what I needed too. The D60 is the old ARB which is better than the new one. I've had exactly zero problems with them.

The old 3 piece design is in no way stronger than the new 2 piece design. Arb would no spend thousands of dollars to build something that was less affective. I personally called ARB and talked to them about it when I had an option to buy the old 3 piece design for $500. The Arb tech said "If you plan on running 42's and cromo shafts there is a chance you could break the older arb and parts will become rare for them."

So I spent the extra money and got something that is LESS LIKELY TO FAIL.

but I am in no way saying the older design is a bad unit they still kick ass.

I guess the issue was there wasn't a problem with the old ones so why change the design? You and I won't ever have an issue with ours but in comp settings, some of the new 2 piece lockers have broken already. This thread is old so things may be different now...
