Hey I got a question, how easy would it be to cut a yota axle and switch it to drivers side drop? Im guessing its pretty straight forward and simple. How much do you think a shop would charge to do this kind of a job?

Is it normal/okay to run an axle that's 9" wider in the front than the rear? I have 1" spacers up front but damn... 9"?

Reason I was wanting to keep the original axle is because I was planning on putting an ARB in there. I wouldn't mind holding off on that and putting it in a different axle. I'm currently still open/open.

It's not simple man lol... Involves alot of cutting and welding.

You'd have a really good turning radius! :D If you go d60 front you will need a matching ton axle in the rear...

I wouldn't run one that wide up front with these trucks unless your going to change the rear axle as well. You can get a Dana 60 for the front and then Put a 14 bolt in the rear for a very good price. Those 14 bolts are a dime a dozen right now but are getting more popular. 9 inche's is a ton of distance to make up. You can't get spacers that wide and I wouldn't want to run them either.

You can go custom 60 in the front like i did but thats a pretty penny. Or you can find a dana 60 and cut it down. That wouldn't be that expensive.

I'll be slowly piecing this thing together and a used dana 60 will have to be rebuilt anyway so going the extra mile and get a custom housing is definitely an option I'm looking at. If going custom, what width would you guys recommend for the first gen?

wrauj's taco over on TTORA on 60/14 setup. The WMS/WMS seems a lot narrower (he says it's off a '79 Ford and doesn't know the WMS, so I assume he didn't narrow it). Any ideas as to why it seems a lot narrower than other 60/14 setups I've seen? Could it be hub size? Wheel BS?

If that's a true 69" WMS, I think it's definitely doable. I just don't want them sticking completely out of the fenders and being an issue with the popo in some area while I DD it. Plus I think it looks a tad silly on a DD:eek:

A little wide for my tastes

I've heard too many mixed results on the Rock Assault housing. If custom housing was an option, Diamond is tuff to turn down

Not if you get spares! :D

x2 on what I've heard about the Rock Assault housings. Diamond or Ruffstuff is probably the route I'd go if I went custom. I've heard of long wait times on the Diamonds, but I have time.

What is everyone's thoughts on a toyota third/ dana 60 hybrid like All-Pro or Diamond has? Would it limit tire size? Is the third going to become the weakest link?

I personally know someone running this cimbo from currie. Its in his competition 4runner...double low in the cases and foot to the floor when bound and not a peep outa it. Hasn't had a single issue.

allpro long travel, shackle flip with ome dakars, cruisin offroad bumpers and sliders, 4.88 gears with arb's front and rear, budbuilt skids.
If your gunna spend the money to go hybrid, mine as well do it right and go 9 inch with 60 outers. Then you get the strongest combo with good clearence. With 60 outers the toy third becomes you weakest link which you don't want cause that's not usually a trail fix and it can get quite exspensive.
