Uhm, depends. IFS Controls Arms are GONE! If it's a linked suspension, it has upper links or control arms different from IFS.

Are the control arms in a different location on a solid axle conversion?

The entire stock IFS front suspension is removed and cut off of the frame. Nothing remains, nothing is reused.

Then it depends on if leaf springs or coils/coilovers are used with straight links.

Ok, thanks. So regardless of what's used (coils/leaf springs) there are no upper control arms? Sorry to keep emphasizing that. Got into a discussion with a friend who recently bought a jeep. I know they come stock with a solid front axle but I'm guessing it's different than the link set up

Jeeps have a 4 link front with a panhard bar. Yes they do have control arm, but they arent like the A arms that are on a tacoma.

Yeah, you're getting into naming conventions with that argument. Jeep links are usually called control arms. But each Jeep Control Arm has 2 point of connection (frame end and axle end). Where as Tacos have 3 points (2 at the frame and 1 at the spindle/balljoint)

Shit, now things are getting weird. :spy:

Back to 3 point is connection, but it's 1 at the frame and 2 at the axle. Locates and limits axle rotation with 1 piece instead of 2 on that side of the vehicle.

I'm saying they're basically the same as a radius arm

Ok, so with the 3 link set up, the links are the control arms or the radius arms? I need to read up more on SAS.

Jeeps are 5 links - 2 uppers 2 lowers and 1 track bar (binds by design eventually, requires rubber bushings)

Triangulated 4 link has 2 uppers and 2 lowers. 1 or both pairs (uppers and/or lowers) are triangulated (frame end and axle end have significantly different mounting widths) to limits lateral movement.

Standard 3 link has 1 upper, 2 lowers and 1 track bar. Upper limits axle rotation, track bar controls lateral movement.

Radius Arms have 2 "lower" arms and 1 track bar. Radius arms have 2 mounting points on the axle to limit rotation and the track bar controls lateral movement.

Well that sucked... Launched way too hard and snapped the output off of my FJ case and toasted the double cardan joint in the drive shaft.. Going to swap in my spare output before the mud drags next weekend. Good thing I needed something to do

    Getting there... Not really tho.
Just wheeled the axle outside to give it a coat of primer, and I thought I'd slap the wheels on to see how it looks and fits.

Sadly I'm still wrestling with my front range off road X member. So no link brackets or shock towers yet...
