with mine, I will be at these numbers..

    low 1, first gear: 50.8:1
    low 2, first gear: 71:1
    double low, second gear: 104:1
    double low, first gear: 191.7:1

...and a lot of gear variations in between.

Definitely a big jump between the third and fourth numbers listed, would definitely be nice to have a gear halfway between there.

Good point. I'm good with just one very low rangr and the 5spd.

    CGear options is nice though.

But you have the more powerful V6 with more torque than the 4cyl. That might make a difference with the gaps in the gears.

Those are good numbers BTW that's a deep low low ratio.

Yea with an auto is a whole different ball game.

Wheeling with auto trannies rock. So much more control

Four more hours at work, wake up and get back to work cutting and grinding on Basketcase. Can't wait. I should be without trans crossmember tomorrow and the last of my rust should be ground away and plated over. Then I can work on unfucking the steering box mounting

You have no idea. It's been MONTHS of it. But it's almost dont so fuck it. Starting to get to the stage that it's actually fun to work on the truck. Weather is better and parts are starting to go on instead of off.

I completely agree. Finally got my D60 cleaned up so I can start mocking up all my link brackets. Black boogers for days. Al least the majority of the grinding is done.
On another note my Atlas shipped today. Pretty stoked about that. Just more work to do now.

I think it was this week.

Speaking of D60 cleaning and black boogers...

I spent a solid 10hrs (easily) with a torch and grinder cleaning mine up.

I'm and MRI Tech so I spend most of the week next to a huge electromagnet. Every sunday when I go back to work after spending friday and saturday working on the truck my ears tingle when I get next to the scanner from all the grinding dust in them, even though I wear ear plugs when I'm in the shop. Took me a while to figure out WTF was going on. I don't even wanna know how much of that crap is built up in my sinuses.

Mine arrived within a month. Ordered February this year and it arrived early March.

I have to say,..over and over again...AA is a great company to do business with. Extremely helpful costumer service and the staff knows their shit. After being burned my Marlin Crawler for a tacobox that was never delivered, I was relieved to have a really amazingly positive experience with AA; including the fast delivery of the product.

Get some air circulation going. A little more space and a big swamp cooler blowing has really reduced the buildup for me. Even door closed more than open and I rarely get black boogers.

I'd love to/ I mean I'd REALLY love to. But I have one outlet on a 10amp breaker, that's it for power, not to mention space/

I'll build a shop in the next year or so

With a manual trans I'd want to get down to at least 10:1 reduction. I'm 4.7's in front of a 2.57 taco case and use 12:1 all the time. Being able to leave your left foot on the floor and never kill the truck is great when things are technical.

Auto with something in the 4:1 range works well too. I've got a friend that uses 12:1 on his auto quite a bit and it crawls awesome. Actually uses the brakes to slow it down more too.

That's great...probably could really fuck your ears up if you had a lot of dust in them around an MRI

I agree. But do you really wheel on 12:1 all the time?

Well, initially I was looking for the tacobox combo of the 2.57 rear and 4.7 in the front, but that didn't work out for me. Quite a negative experience with Marlin Crawler. Long story but the product never arrived, I had a timeline and needed to move on.

Maybe I didn't understand quite well when things were explained to me, but it seemed like the gearing options in the 4spd have too much gear overlap:

    Option #1

    1.0:1 (highway)/ 2.72:1 (planetary gear set)/ 1.50:1 (atlas main gears)/ 4.08:1 (final ratio in low-low)

    Option #2

    1.0:1 (highway)/ 2.72:1 (planetary gear set)/ 2.00:1 (atlas main gears)/ 5.44:1 (final ratio in low-low)

    Option #3

    1.0:1 (highway)/ 2.72:1 (planetary gear set)/ 3.00:1 (atlas main gears)/ 8.16:1 (final ratio in low-low)

    Option #4

    1.0:1 (highway/ 2.72:1 (planetary gear set)/ 3.80:1 (atlas main gears)/ 10.34:1 (final ratio in low-low)

With the options above I just don't envision using any of the tcase low gear options availalable too often (3.80 is the lowest and that's not low enough for me). This would force me force me to engage the planetary 2.72 to be in compound low too often - as opposed to having it as a "secret weapon" when you really need it.

This is probably probably why I heard from guys running the tacobox that they spent most of the time on the 4.7 gear, only engaging the 2.57 occasionally for the super technical stuff. Again, this would not be an issue if I had an engine with more torque, or an auto tranny. There are many variables to consider.

If AA allowed me to configure the main tcase gears with a 5.0, then I would have purchased the 4spd one for sure. With my application it would have been sweet to have the 5.0 gear as primary low, and then the 2.72 as extra for low-low. If I had an auto or a 5spd with a bigger engine I would probably consider the 4spd with 3.80 in the main case (the lowest available in the main case as of now)

I guess I'll be burning the clutch on technical stuff while you guys crawl next to me with both feet up un the air while drinking a beer :D

    Hope this makes sense LOL.

Mission accomplished....ran out of primer though. Ordered DOM sleeved bushings for my trans mount/skid plate, hopelully they'll be here in time for me to start woriking on that friday.

Cutting out the trans crossbemeber was a bigger bitch than I remembered.

You are making great progress man.

I assume that blue thing under there is an inchworm lefty. are you planning to run duals or keep just the lefty?

Its an inchworm crawlbox with an FJ case behing it. I just got a triple stick in the mail from these guys http://www.radesignsproducts.com/triple-sticks-1.html to control it all. @ahspurlock opened the Tcase for me and did the mods for the twin stick. My DD has a problem with having enough gear for my heavy ass 37s. I didn't want to run into that problem with this one. Maybe WAAAY down the line I'll do an V8 conversion to Bsketcase and throw an Atlas in there at which point my DD can get the Inchworm.

We (mostly @ahspurlock ) swapped the 4.56s in my DD last night to 4.88s so hopefully that will help its issues. I was ussing first and second WAY too much on the street when we were in the mountains of Kentuck near Harlan.
