It still doesn't make sense to me :D

Building a rig without a specific purpose/goal is what burns most people along the way. If you enjoy building rigs randomly just for the heck of it; well...it's your time and money and you have the right to do it!

When it comes to these projects; everybody wants:

    Fast - Strong - Cheap

As we all find out the hard way; one can almost NEVER have all three categories on the same rig. Best thing is two pick two categories and hope for the best.

Sometimes it seems from your posts that you want all three :D

I raced years ago, I know better. But I also know there are places money can be saved...and places it can't. I'm pretty much giving up on the cheap part. There was a point that I had a timeline that I wanted this project done in, thus the budget constraints. I've pretty much given up on that. At this point, it costs what it costs and it takes however long it takes. I would like to get the frame back togetether and the links in in the next month or so, but again, it'll be done when it's done. If it's driving and wheeling this time next year, I'll be a happy guy.

We always said Cheap, fast, reliable: Pick 2

Think of it more as a bad mother fucker of a trail rider than rock crawler, bouncer mudd truck, whatever. Maybe that's the best title of purpose I can give it. I'll do with it what I do with my other truck. Drive to park, wheel the trails, drive home. This will just be capable of much harder trails. Still won't be doing anything super retarded.

More than anything, it's a just for the fuck of it kinda deal. Jack of all trades, master of none. That sort of thing

I've heard several version of that saying. I guess it is all the same idea; with "reliable" and "strong" being kind of related :D

In my situation, I settled for strong/reliable and "cheap" (there's nothing really cheap about these projects, but I know mine was cheaper than most other projects). Rolling on 4cyl with 40"s....there's nothing fast about that LOL.

It sounds like you have been around racing and custom projects for a while, so it should be all good then. There's is nothing wrong with building a bad ass rig just because....As long as you enjoy doing it regardless of the time/$$$ it takes.

BS. Watching a $2000 mini cab truck on 35s own stupid hard trails with little effort, is way more badass then watching something that was built with all the top of the line shit, with a few swipes of the credit card, doing the same thing.

Making a rig do crazy stuff, with the least amount of resourses, and maximum ammounts of ingenuity is badass. Someone comes rolling off a trailer with 30k in suspension parts alone, or an ultra 4 buggy get a big yawn out of me.

I've wedged my big ass into a first gen mini cab, nothing was badass about that IMO. But to each his own. Maybe if I was 5'6 I'd feel differently.

I don't think we're going to define a universal matrix by which to judge and catagorize cool.

But we could try I guess.

On another note, I think I've devised a way to replace my frame with the truck and cab where they are. Gonna start working on my plan friday. I'll be happy as shit if it works. I really am tired of dealing with rusty metal and I wanna be done with it.

Are you building a whole new frame?

Maybe. I have an idea that came to me last night on how to make that happen. I'll be back at the shop friday and play with it to see if it'll really work. If so, yes. I've wanted to, just haven't been able to figure out how given space limitations. But i think I have that figureded out. I REALLY hate to weld this pretty new frame secion to my old dicked up frame. I will gladly toss all my work thus far into the scrap pile if it'll work.

You're not short. I'm a little taller at 6'3 and couldn't get the fuck out if the thing fast enough. My Ex-wife had a miata and I felt less cramped in it.

Yeah its definitely not a spacious cabin. Feels about right for my size though.
