    You need a LOT of money, even if you do the work yourself you need to have a shit ton of money available. Whatever you come up with on that spreadsheet, double it. Seriously, it always works that way. So embrace for impact :D

    But it is totally worth it.

    Yeah thats what i've been advised, lol. I plan on buying as many kits as possible, but i'm gonna use FJ80 axles, so we'll see. Theres a few guys i've read their threads on here and other forums, as well as PM some, so we'll see how it goes. Gonna be calling Marlin tomorrow about a T Case!

    You don't need a lot of money. It 100% depends on if you want one specific person to do the install/welding vs learnging how go yourself

    You clearly don't have a clue of what you are talking about :rolleyes: Do you even have a SAS on your tacoma? :p

    If you take your time and do your research, it will be a good experience. Some guys just jump the gun, then change their minds about different things, which causes the project to turn directions, which requires more money, more time, blah, blah.

    I will give you an example. Lot of people do a SAS with leaf springs - trying to save money cause it seems initially cheaper. Then a few years down the road they realize how much better a link suspension is and they do links with coilovers. That's like doing a SAS all over again, and it adds as significant amount of money.

    Another example; People also change their minds about axles and locker choice; start with toyota axles and lunch box lockers but then move into bigger axles with air lockers - cause they are so much more awesome! Again, building axles 2 or 3 times costs a shit ton of money.

    And the classic of all: "i will never go bigger than 35 inch tires." Yea, whatever LOL.

    If you know exactly what you want from the beginning and stick to a plan, that's what will save you money. That's why you need to talk to as many people as you can that have a SAS, get ideas, advice, what worked for them and what didn't, etc.

    I went back and forward a many times about wanting to stay a toyota purist vs doing a SAS with other parts. Talked to a LOT of people both online and in person. And I can tell you that most people I talked to, even those that did a SAS with all toyota parts, strongly persuaded me to go with a link suspension and coilovers with big ass axles from the get go. Eventually, that's what I did and have no regrets.

    You can do it cheap if you buy used parts, know some people who can hook you up with free parts that they dont need anymore, and do your own work. Also its surprising how much money you can save if you focus on what works offroad and not focusing on what looks cool on instagram or going for the uber bling factor.

    It's all about time vs money on what you spend. You can do it for next to nothing if you have the time to build your own brackets, get friend discounts, hunt for deals in junkyards, and cruise classifieds for deals with cash in hand. You can spend some coin buying all new parts and putting it together yourself. Or you can just write a check (or swipe the CC :eek:) at a bling shop and have no time invested at all but a 5 figure build.

    Guess it depends what you consider a lot of money. 10k isn't that much IMO

    I've read that. Granted I was :drunk: when I posted that. Still stand by it can be done "cheap". I bought an axle for $300 bucks. Another 2k and it'll be regeared, locked, and high steer.

    1999SASpreacher is a cool name :D But what about you telling people instead to stop posting the same comments over and over again about how easy and cheap it is to do SAS? LOL

    I'm deployed with the Army in the middle of a combat zone,....So I'm afraid there won't be wheeling pics anytime soon:luvya:

    Finally got a super mega weak wifi signal here and posting shit on TC is one of the few outlets I have to relax and have fun.


    Well, you have $2,300 invested and that just takes care of one axle. Does that include the steering parts by the way? Another couple grand for a craw box. What about everything else, rear axle, suspension front/rear parts, tires, wheels, hydro assist, miscellaneous, etc.?

    You cant really count the crawl box as part of an sas. Rear axle swap isnt needed if you are running 37s. If you are worried about breaking it, leave all the camping and expo gear back at camp, shave weight off the truck and learn how to drive.

    10k isnt that much?? You can buy a pre swapped early gen truck for that much!

    Well, I guess people's view on money is very subjective. 10 grand seems like a good amount of money for most people I know. But for some here it seems like pennies, LOL. Oh well haha

    Ok, I a ok with removing the crawl box from the equation. I thought it was a given that when you do a SAS you need to lower the gears at the tcase. But I guess not everybody does.

    Guess I just understand it's the name of the game :notsure: completely modifying the front end of a vehicle, 10k isn't that much. Not saying you can't do a lot of other things with that money
