I'm done with IFS. I always liked the Excursions. It'll end up another project truck like my Black N Tan Tacoma as soon as I sell it and "finish" Basketcase.

Hardly. I got a pretty good deal on the X and financed enough to cover it and a trailer. I should get enough out of sellin my DD Taco (Black N Tan in my profile pick) to pay it off and have a good chunk left over to throw at Basketcase.

When Basketcase is "done" I'll focus on getting my shop built. I'm getting married and moving to my girls family land (300ish acres) in a couple months. House there is old, beat up and an hour from work, but paid for. From there out finances will be split between the trucks, shop and fixing up the house.

More creative juggling then anything else

For gas engines I agree, Thats why I'm planning an LSX swap in Basketcase.

For the rest of the truck I prefer the Fords.

And I'm just not cool with IFS in a supposed 3/4 ton and up truck.

Ideally I would have gotten the 7.3L. But they are getting up there in milage and the prices are insane. The ones I looked at that weren't complete shitboxes were still in the 20k range. I paid 6500 for an 05 Eddie Bauer. The trans and front end have been rebuilt within the last year, and I got the receipts. The price difference will allow me to do the Cummins swap and some other work I have planned. I think it'll work out. And if it doesn't I don't think I'll lose much on resale, if anything.

IFS is not a bad word in road vehicles. I would trade my F250 and its SFA for a 2500 Chevy and IFS in a heartbeat. Ford steering boxes suck and they did not build enough caster into the front end on anything from 99-07. This makes them wander around a fair amount from wind and the crown in the road. Around 08 they got it figured out but GM was turning out 2500's that rode and drove better for all the time in between.

Not to mention that Ford couldn't build a brake caliper to save their lives in that era either. They are a 60k item on 3/4 tons because they stick and burn the brakes off the truck.

PSC site says it's 1600PSI, and 4.5GPM. The guy I bought it from told me I will probably need a different pulley. I'm gonna call PSC and figure out what I need. Also missing the mounting bracket I think.

Everything has issues. I wanted the biggest damn SUV I could get. ANd there's nothing bigger. I just checked Craigslist, there isn't a 2500 Suburban anywhere around me, so it's kinda a non issue. If I did find one i doubt it would be in the same price range.

Is there a fix for the caster issue. The wandering is annoying. I've read that heavier springs help with the bumpsteer, but thats not gonna correct caster

Wyatt told me he has to get the pulley and pump from Howe. When we got his steering kit he said you have to fabricate your own bracket. I really wish there was a high flow mod for the factory pump. As it is, I might use the factory pump anyhow until I LSx swap.

From what I've gathered it will always wander some but you can minimize it with caster slugs on your coil setup. I'm on leafs so I threw a 2.5* shim in mine and it made it a ton better. It didn't want to go with the crown of the road nearly as much afterwards. Check your steering box too, I had slop in mine and got one from Redhead that was just as bad as the stocker before they warrantied that one and got me a good tight box.

PSC doesn't make the mounting bracket for 2.7l or 3.4l motors so doubt they make it for the 2nd Gen tacoma. Had to get mine from trail gear.

I'm on leafs as well. I'll get the shim. I've read there's an adjustment on the steering box but haven't messed with it. I really dont have much slop, just wanders.

Get a 30mm swaybar off of an F350 that will help the X a ton. I don't believe they shipped with a rear sway bar for some reason or another. You can also get B code rear springs that are a higher rate and will help keep it from dragging ass under a load too.

I'm probably to end up replacing the springs front and rear before long to give it a little lift and possibly step up to 315/75s.

Ultimately it'll be built to trail ride some. Similar to the truck its replacing. Good trail rider and able to carry a ton of shit. This one however will be built on 1 tons and able to tow.

I'll call my local junkyard and look for that swaybar

and generally cheaper than anything else too.

A man gotta have his toys :D I bet that garage will be awesome.

Funny, that's exactly I ended up doing for the same reasons. TG is good for some things, and this is a good example. Nobody had the damn bracket, so I ordered it from them. No issues whatsoever.

We'll see. I really want a 40x60 steel building. Unfortunately the county tax assessors office is staffed by pricks and if you put up anything "nice" they jack up your property taxes by A LOT. So her dad is encouraging me to build something that will work but looks bobo as fuck to keep the taxes low. We'll see how that plays out.
