I can never really tell by just looking at them LOL. Have to see them side-to-side.

However....are you sure that's a 14bolt from 2000? I believe late model 14bolts come with disk brakes from factory, as well as the 1410 yokes. Trying to remember...I think mine is from 1998 or early 2000, but it certainly did not have drum brakes.

Don't quote me on any of this, I am just stating what my axle came with. I really do not claim to be an expert on 14 bolt axles and all the variations they came up with.

People that hit a yoke/u-joing are the low rider SAS guys that have the same clearance as IFS with 33"s :D

I do think toy Ujoints are tough just not putting down massive torque tough. As far as a strap style well Ford makes flanged 1350 style drive lines so time to step it up either way

Tire size and pinion height affects whacking the ujoints on rocks, not how high you have it lifted :D

We just get bellied out on the same shit that the IFS guys do.

I didn't start hitting stuff on the rocks until I put the 80 axle in, my driveshaft was no longer protected by the gas tank.

42's help keep the drive shaft away from the rocks. before i had the 14B my track bar hung below the drive shaft saving it from damage.

I cleaned up my 14B and assembled my wheels over the weekend. I'm not going to be able to tear into the truck until mid July due to the day job, but at least I can get something done.

I wasn't talking about suspension lift only :D

A low rider with 37"s is sweet.

Now, a low rider with 33"-35"s kind of brings the axles back to where they were with IFS...closer to the rock thus exposing the driveline more.

I got a heck of a lot of more clearance under the axles and pinion when I switched from 37"s to 40"s. And then I got even more clearance after shaving the 14bolt, which provided close another 2" inches of clearance under the diff if I remember correctly. That may not sound like a lot, but that's like going from a 31" to 35" tire.

Don't have any new pics but this one shows the added clearance. Can almost fit a 5 gallon bucket under the rear axle :D (with the shave and 40"s)

    345BF92C-9E96-4EBB-87F7-422C9BCB6564_zps_2900bb76769c3860d74827e7834f33b4a8b13ac7.jpg
RCTOY probably has more clearance than that even though his 14bolt does not have the shave because he is running 42"s. That's a another good chunk of clearance.

    Sweet!

That axle is a heavy bitch.

Nice wheel/tire combo. How was it installing those wheels?

So much better with the drums gone though. The newer slip on drums were cake to remove though. :D

I had one wheel give me shit, but the rest were done in 15 min each with the help of another set of hands.

Yea those drum brakes are huge and heavy. So I assume you are doing the disk brake conversion.

It sounds like the wheels are not really a PITA to deal with like other bead locks are.

It reminds me a little bit of the military style bead locks

I'll be shaving mine this weekend. I went with the Barnes diff cover. I'll gain 1.25" of clearance and won't have to shave my gears or weld anything up.

I do have one interesting feature of the newer axle that may cause an issue though. There's a drain plug in the bottom of the case, which I'll more than likely be cutting through when I shave the axle. More than likely I'll weld it closed, but I won't know until I make the cut.

Another tidbit about this particular 14 bolt. Even though it came out of a van the WMS is only 68.5".

My rear disk conversation is in the mail. I don't think I'll ever shave my 14B. If I cought it on rocks more often I might but that something to do later right

Cool thanks. I'll check it out. I'm very curious about 'em.

I went with the shave kit from ballistic. It does require the ring gear to be shaved as well. Shaving an welding a 14bolt is more involved than what it seems at first. Never seen a drain bolt on a 14bolt. That's actually pretty cool.

Finally getting rid off those nasty drum brakes?!!

With those 42"s I dont' think you need to worry about shaving the axle :D Probably more practical with smaller tires.

Found a tranny and t case today. $350 going to grab it in a few. Should be done in about a week or so depending on how fast I find a good deal on a motor.

    Nice.

Why not a V8 swap since you went through the trouble? Well...I guess the V8 would have required a shit tone of cutting to the firewall to make it fit.....

Like I said if dragging my diff was more of an issue I'd do a shave kit. Though I did cut a half inch off the bottom of the diff. For better clearance.
