Don't discard the potentially problematic unit bearings. Look around on diesel forums and other offroad forums. Lots of complaints from guys about how often they wear out. But again...you cannot believe everything people say on online forums :D

The call to AA should be to get an Atlas :D

Based on what you described above, I am glad I did not go the toyota cases route. I have heard nothing but trouble about them from people over the years. My buddy here in AZ got sick and tired of his and sold it. And after everything is said and done with the toyota cases you are not that far from an Atlas money wise.

I always found it interesting and ironic that low range offroad - the home of inchworm gear - has been advertising and selling Atlas tcases for a while on the their website and promoting them as a stronger and better option over toyota parts. One would think they would only want to sell their products, so that says a lot.

Is that the same adapter that your running?

Their site lists two different applications for prerunner 1st vs 2nd gen

Most complaints are with the 99-04 style unit bearings. They went through a redesign for the 05+ years and they are much bigger and stronger

1997 t4r has super duty axles, 5.13s locked front and rear. 3 link front with 14" kings. Rear 63s.
Most of the time dodge and chevy out weight the amount of ford hubs we sell. The kit to convert it is 1800 so I think I’ll pass on that. Plus I don’t have to pack extra grease and stuff if a hub does go out. Just keep a spare hub assembly.

They also sell Marlins stuff (seals, adapter, etc.) Lol. Seems they sell everything and decently priced. Main company I order stuff from and even more with the free shipping cause everything is more than $50 haha.

If I can find someone to buy my dual cases and adapter I would sell them to get an atlas. Probably go with the the 5.something:1 ratio.
Should have done an atlas in the first place with the amount of money I dropped on the duals... live and learn though.

Warn makes a set I’ll put in if anything. It will be driven on road so drive slugs are not what I would want.

Didn't realize he was a 2nd gen. But I'm running the 1st gen adapter. Either way for the money, I would get an atlas. Pretty close in price and AA said they have an adapter to make the atlas work with the 2wd transmissions.

Don’t the atlas cases leak too?

It's a sealed unit seperste from the transmission so they won't share fluid if a seal goes bad. I've never heard of them leaking but I haven't researched them a lot. My dad just got one for his jeepster and they're nice lol

Didn't know that. Still think it's a better unit over Toyota's stupid seal design since so many people have problems. And they're stronger from what I've read.

@Sacrifice what master cylinder are you planning to run. The calipers on the front and rear superduty axles are huge

The dual cases themselves are fine. Its the seal between the transmission and transfer case. There's only one seal and with how this prerunner adapter is, it will always let transmission fluid (automatics Atleast) be pumped into the tcase if the seal is just slightly worn. Wouldn't be a problem if it was a manual because then you can just let fluid go back and forth but with the automatic it fills the transfer case and I have to constantly top off the transmission.

    Just noticed this today actually...
Was sent to ECGS for regear. Haven't even wheeled yet. Flinging oil all over my gas tank and exhaust pipe...

The interwebs tells me the seal isn't just replaceable which is odd, so I might just snag a new one and take my time and tap it and prep for hydro if I ever get around to it
