Whatcha running for a tow pig?

Plan was always to eventually go hydro assist on the crawler. But hadn’t thought of looking into other boxes (like redhead) first. My SFA conversion was done like 8 years ago, so it’s overdue for an upgrade lol

Yeah that’s understandable I’m working on my hydro assist at the moment as well. Using trail gears 2”x8” Ram.

Got 2nd gen 4Runner steering box from redhead on my Tacoma.

They seem like pretty good quality rebuilds. I actually had the adjustment nut come loose on mine though and I leaked a bunch of fluid out on the trail. That was kind of a bummer. It’s been fine since though

I've got a Redhead box on my F250 and really like it. It took them two tries to get me a tight box though.

If you are looking for more steering power, just save the money and use a stock box with assist added. RH's big pitch is that their boxes are slop-free, not that you will get stronger steering.

Hmmm good to know, this is super helpful. Slip I don’t really care as much about. Wanting more steering power which obviously is typically accomplished with hydro. Buuuut there’s a bitch of a seal inside my IFS Toyota steering box causing a leak that evidently is rarely replaced due to the efforts required to do it, so from my understanding most just buy a new steering box as a whole. So figured might as well weigh my options. It all still goes back to adding hydro assist tho. I also have a rag joint that I need to replace.

Might not be a bad idea to check car-part.com for a box if you need one and don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it. My box is weeping but not quite leaky per say yet so it's on my radar too.

The beauty of hydro assist is that it takes a ton of strain off your box and frame where it mounts. No ripping boxes off the frame and getting a sloppy box in just a year or so like if you did not have hydro assist.

Just got back from Easter Jeep safari in Moab. Saw more toyotas than I've seen at any other event besides the marlin round up on the Rubicon. There was even a lot of sasd tacomas but mainly sasd 4runners and pickups. On top of that 90% of them where still leaf springs lol. Very few where linked but still a lot of nice ones.

    And some flexing

The town is busy but the trails aren't that bad. We didn't sign up for trails this year just did our own thing. Just have to plan around the safari trails as some of them are closed. Only issue we had was on kane creek where we got stuck waiting for 2 or so hours at the end (hamburger hill?) But we think they where filming dirt every day and that ian from big tire garage. Still wasn't that bad of a wait either.

Going to the vendor show is worth it. Yukon had some smoking deals going on. I ordered some stuff as well as my dad. But most the other companies do as well.

Certain trails are "closed" that the safari is doing guided runs on for the day. Most of them are the out and back trails like cliffhanger, gold bar rim, Moab rim, etc. Plus they have the "right away" since they paid for the trail run. We just planned our Trails around the days the safari wasn't using them and didn't have any problems except for Kane creek which wasn't that bad. The trails aren't closed all week just the days they are using them.

Ohh makes sense. Doesn't seem to bad then if you can plan around that. How was finding somewhere to stay? I imagine every hotel/rental house/camp ground was booked up or incredibly expensive.

All the trails are open at one point or another during the week. Just have to plan your week out.

My dad and his buddies have been going for years so the hotel we stay at (Bowen inn) books us for the week every year at a reduced rate whenever we check out. If we could get enough of our buddies to commit we would get a condo/house but they are such flakes we just stay in the hotel. But yes everything is pretty much booked solid from the looks

Have to agree. probably one of my favorite trails I have ever ran next to the rubicon. But we don't get to drive through streams here at home so its different for me. But it had a good mix of everything. Dirt roads, tight with the trees, water and a little bit of crawling at the end. Will probably be a trail we do everytime we go kind of like hells revenge.

Kane has to be one of the most abusive trails I've ever run. seriously took out all 4 doors on that trail back when i was on 33's then drown the truck, spun a rim inside of a tire on that trail, and lets not even talk about all the pin stripping.
