i tagged a door and the bedside on that trail too. we got a truck on 33s through without damage, but did have to winch it a little on the last hill.

i was following a taco on 35's and 9" lift so he just lumbered over a big ass rock and my short ass slid into it then later there was a washout muddy part with a tree root sicking out that got the other two doors. Didn't have to winch at all and that was our night trail for that year. The year after i came back on a 6" lift and 35's and sank the truck in the only mud bog part of the trail that wasn't there the year before and isn't there now. That trail changes every year which add's to it's appeal.

Anyone else with the trail gear SAS kits have shit shackle angle?

I just ordered OME springs, part number CS010R (for rear 84-88 Toyota Hilux), the spring rate is slightly softer than the stiff ass trail gear 3" HD pack I have now, and these will move the front axle forward 1.5", helping eliminate the necessity of severe tubbing.

    From OME
1979-1988 Toyota Pickup | 1984-1989 4Runner Rear Leaf Spring - Heavy 2.25" Lift by Old Man Emu (CS010R) Weight: 52.8000 lbs 285 lb/in 445 lb/in once overload leaves kick in
5 + 2 leaves, remove the third leaf down from the top if too much lift

Trail Gear springs are 320 lbs/inch and notoriously too short on most all of the Tacoma swaps I've seen.

The longer (fixing the vertical shackle angle to the proper angle) and softer springs should both really make the ride much more bearable. I'll be installing mine in about a month.

Most people with leaf springs have shit shackle angles, it can be very difficult to get them dialed in. Every spring seems to be a different length and even a 1/2" length would affect the shackle angle more than you'd think.

That's also the problem with using a kit. Glad I went forward shackle, if I need to change the angle I can just cut the shackle mounts off and move them.

Got my shackle angle right the first time :notsure: but I also spent 2 weeks cycling the suspension to get everything just right before fully welding. The front out performs the rear and is the smoothest ride with trail gear 3" hd with 2 more leafs removed. I plan on getting them again or sky's rufs because maybe 40s.

So anybody have plans for May 18-25? Im off the 17-26 ( had to use some vacation time before June) and don't really have any plans but would like to hit the rubicon and/or moab/sandhollow since I don't think I will be able to later this year. Anybody want to meet up and do some wheeling?

Haha. I have to buy one more hub bearing, spider ball joints and spicer seals with u joints then I’ll be 100% brand new on my front axle. Then off to buy a rear axle. Or shocks. Haven’t made that decision yet

Front is pretty much completed. Got to install locker in front and rear. Then regear in July. Jeep will be done this month though to be able to go off road.

Gear box, rear axle, shocks, 3link stuff and tube is what I’m lacking before I even start to think about when I’ll get cutting. Want to have as much as possible on the shelf before I start. I did that with my s10 on leafs and had it done in a weekend. Links are way different though and plan on taking 2 weeks vacation to get as much done as possible
