Thinking about just welding both diffs up since it won’t see the streets. Can use that money somewhere else.

Welded diffs sound horrible. Especially both of them. Talk about no steering and so much unnecessary stress on everything. I'd keep the grizzly and pony up a little more for atleast another one and run them front and rear. Trail rig only or not

So tech question here. Getting ready to order my rear axle housing for the 9 in. Question is centered pinion (different length shafts) or off set pinion (same length shafts) I think the 9 in is only offset 2 in to the passenger side which isn't a lot compared to the land cruiser rear axles some guys run. Axle will be 35 spline. Rcvs (probably NOT 300m). Full float. And a zip locker. I like to carry spares and equal lengths shafts would make it easy but not sure if its worth the possible headache of vibrations and the off set pinion. So what's everyone's opinion.

Broke my first drive train related part this weekend in sand hollow when I got hoping on a little climb. ended up breaking the ujoint at the tcase (the expensive strong neapco u joint at that). But didn't break an axle shaft on the stock e locker axle. SO reality is I probably wont ever break a full float 35 spline shaft (even if I ever do get a supercharger). With that though when I do go to an atlas next I was also thinking of upgrading u joints to possibly 1350 or even 1410 so that would eliminate the u joint weak link. Front axle will probably stay 1310 u joints just so that's the weak link but will get a high pinon at some point because I was told that makes a built Toyota axle equivalent to a stock d60. (I know I should have just built a 9 in or done a 60 for the front. oh well)

I would not even worry about equal length spares. The best part of a full float is you can still drive if it's broke.

I have a friend here that daily drives a Lexus drift car and a sased first gen. His only two vehicles. Both have welded rear axles. He also has a hell of a daily drive. He works at the top of Mauna Kea. 14,000'...

Both of mine are 'spooled' Basically same thing as welded, just maybe stronger this way. Never had any issues. Steering is fine. Only issue I have steering is tight corners, which is my own fault since I am limiting my ram and I don't need too. Unless I drove this on tar, I'd never have it any other way.

Both of mine are spooled in my crawler. I just shift the atlas in front wheel drive and disconnect the rear around turns. Easy peasy.

Now the taco I just bought is welded rear. I hate it on the street. Wish I had a Detroit
