sounds like we're running the same setup - like @malburg114 mentioned with tundra's up front stock mc and booster might not work. With our pre-01's that have the dual diaphragm booster we may have another setback with having to swap that out. I've talked to someone that built a nicely put together prerunner with Sequoia disks in back and tundra's in front and had a Sequoia master make his 01+ with the single diaphragm work great. The dual booster may make the pedal feel mushy with that setup from what I've read about boosters in general.

Pedal feel is 6/10 firm. Not as firm as stock but brakes work well on 35s though I don't drive the truck much. I am not too worried about dialing it in, I'm collecting parts for my 60/Sterling swap and will probably have to replace every component in the braking system.

Basically where I'm at too. Found a Sequoia MC and booster, interested to see what @malburg114 had to do in order to make the gm master work.

Does this someone have a build thread on this, curious because I see earlier it was posted sos performance has an adapter but only for 2nd gen unless I missed it.

Running tundras up front and installing 4runner caliper rears.

They have a kit for 1st gen Tundras which I've been told is close to 1st gen Tacos. That said it's like $100 for fittings and a bracket that wasn't too complicated.

I'm running tundra fronts with fj80 rear discs with the stock 1st gen brake system and the stock prop valve zip tied up, I can lock the brakes with 37s. It seems to be hit or miss with these trucks!

Posted all the details above. It’s literally a bolt on master adapter. Then it’s finding the right size plunger and either putting the correct hard line end onto the gm master or replacing them (I went to all soft lines)

My bad missed this. Glad to read it before I put money down on a sequoia booster / mc. What front brakes are you running? Do you know the diameter / surface area of the piston(s)? I’ve been trying to get this measurement for tundra brakes so I can roughly get the master cylinder diameter I need. I think rear setup will influence what ratio someone’s going for based on piston area and how open they leave their proportioning valve to get rear bias.

    http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/4runner/brakes/

Read this awhile ago and wasn’t familiar enough with what toy parts were carried over from pre-95 but they do love to keep existing parts on vehicles so like you found out, the booster in my truck should work with the sky GM adapter. $40 ain’t terrible.

It’s weird too since the newer single diaphragm setups had a smaller mc bore 15/16 I think than the older duals 1” but I’ve read more guys with the single diaphragm trucks having better results with tundra brakes upgrades when leaving the rears stock.

Tundra fronts. No clue on diameter or surface area stuff. Like i said. I think the ideal setup for mine would be a 1 1/6 master. 1 1/4 was way to strong. 1 1/8 is decent though

I converted to single line from MC to each corner and used an adjustable BPV for the rear. Other than lines, all stock, zero issues.

I am curious to see how it holds up as well. So far so good however ive only been out on 10 or less trips. Front axle has longfields and rear has stock shafts. Eventually I want to move up to tons and coil-overs but hoping the toy axles keep me satisfied for a few years.

Your shafts will be fine, just get a few spare diffs.

It’s funny that I’ve broken an RCV and a Detroit twice in my front axle, two upgrades that are supposed to be unbreakable, and I’ve never hurt a R&P or transfer case that’s supposed to be the weak point in a Toyota setup

I was just going off John's 3rd gen. That truck seemed to eat diffs.

I never broke the supposedly weakest most unreliable axle and locker combo on earth, the factory tacoma e locker that worked flawlessly anytime I needed it.

That was my plan with the tons. Glad to hear that it works. I forget, you have the SD 60 and factory disk Sterling?

Right? It’s kinda funny how it goes sometimes like that.

I think John’s diff eating problem was probably mostly from asking factory junkyard 4.88’s to live under the rear of a 6k+ lb 4Runner. And yours probably lived since you pack a crescent wrench as your trail tool kit lol

Nice, I am looking to do something very similar to what you have done but with 41" IROKs and a kingpin Ford 60 for the front. Not sure if I'll convert the rear to disks but the lugnut kit has GM calipers like I'm already running.

Thinking 14" ORIs with the 3 link front.
