Was gonna shoot for 40"s and 5.38s. Thought it should be reasonable goal for the 2.7L.

And I'm completely in the dark about the atlas stuff. Time for some more reading. :anonymous:

As for the 3 link/4 link deal, I was planning on moving the gas tank either way (most likely custom size/fit). It'll probably depend a lot on the bed design.

I wouldnt have what your running in any of my builds if it was given to me. But thats just me. Worked with them, fixed them and built them in the past. But wouldnt put them on my rig. We agree to disagree. Love my shit and you yours. That's what makes the world to 'round

Depends on which FJ case your talking about. There are two different ones.

The case that goes behind the auto trans has 23 splines and is the same as the 1st gen Taco's and Tundra's. Very strong case. I have that case in my Tacoma and haven't had any issues with it at all.

Then there is the six speed case that has a larger input shaft. That case is just as strong as the former case but with a larger input shaft.

It's rare to break one of these case's unless your bouncing off of water falls and get the ires spinning in the air and come back down on a surface with a lot of traction. But then again I've seen Atlas's do the same thing in tacoma's and FJ Cruisers. Nothing is bullet proof. But i wouldn't say that the input shaft is a poor design either given that it has a very small failure rate.

Here is a picture of both input shafts and planetary gearsets from the FJ/T
2nd Gen Tacoma case's. The larger one on the left is the six speed and the smaller one is from the automatic tranny and is the same one I have in my Tacoma.DSC00673640x480_f787c1b2c4f56ee68b20055750bb5f6110a234d4.jpg

I'm trying to work with marlin right now on a coupler that will allow me to put this larger input into the back of my Marlin Crawler "Taco" box. But it may be some time before that happens. Haven't had the need yet for a larger input shaft.

I'm running 41's with the 4.0 V6 and will soon be running a stroked 4.7 Toyota V8 with about 450hp and will be using my tried and true FJ case. They are very good case's and the failure rate is not very high at all.

Quick question guys is there any reason you don't just look into a atles??
i looked at the crawl box's from marlin and for like 800 more i can get a 4speed atles, thats what ill get just for the peace of mind itll give me.

So you basically read what happened to my buddy Phill's Tacoma  Maybe you missed the part about his previous rear adapter being a 1 bearing instead of the dual row bearing he currently has. Dual row bearing won't let the output on the crawl box wobble around like a single row. This has nothing to do with the stock transfer case.

What the heck is a G-van anyway??

    Edit: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/gene...-35-spline-rear-dana-60-full-float-axles.html

Yes it does, see below ;)

Wyatt, good to know the internals are bigger, as well as the case. But I believe you proved my point in another one of your posts. If the weak point in the 1st gen Taco cases is the input and the AUTO input on the FJ t-case is the same 23 spline as the first gen Taco, then they are the same strength. I've NEVER seen a Taco transfer case blow the chain out :)

Yes. If the 1st gen has a weak point it's the input shaft. I've only seen one break before in person and a couple on the boards but I've also seen how the owners if those trucks drove and I was surprised they didn't break sooner. Given enough abuse anything is going to break. Even an Atlas. I've actually seen more Atlas break than the chain Toyota cases.
I think stronger parts give drivers a false sense of security and they go out and beat the heck out if their trucks and end up breaking stuff.
If you we're to just build your truck right, and then drive it with the thought that its got to get you home you'll be surprised at the trails you can tackle without breaking stuff.

Good! I'm happy to hear my truck will do fine with 1 tons and 40's then :D Planning to keep the stock transfer case too, no crawl box. Damn, now I'm getting more antsy to slap these axles under there!!
