Mine are just starting to have play in them (broke all the zerks off so there's no grease anymore) after 50k miles, even with some highway vibes

    Another reg cab!

Thought you were never going to build another Toyota after decommissioning the white reg cab one.

    Why not links this time?

Originally I was keeping all the stuff from the frame down from the old truck, and swap it under a Tundra. But, truck prices got crazy so I sold all the stuff from the Tacoma. Ended up putting a new roof on my house with that money, and then I left my job for a new one that paid more and worked less, so I decided that I was going to get something to mess around with since I actually had the time now.

As for the suspension, money is the main reason lol, but also simplicity. I've yet to do a leaf spring suspension for myself so I decided now is the time. I also realize that you really don't need links in Florida and for how much I will actually wheel out of state, leaf springs will do everything I need.

It makes total sense. So the old Tacoma lives forever now in the roof of the house lol. That was such a cool truck. As you know, it inspired me for mine since it's the same model and color.

Very true about the need for links over there. Definitely more relevant in the southwest.

Look forward to the new project. Hope you'll document everything on this forum as you did with the other one.

haha pretty much. The actual truck was sold to a guy and his sone about an hour and a half from me, but who knows what its condition is at the moment. But I appreciate it, it was a fun truck for sure.

I started a build thread over in the 2nd gen build forum for all who want to follow along

Odd question, do 1st gen tacomas need a speed sensor and kickdown cable to move? Mine won’t have either but still have the auto ecu so wondering if that’s going to cause issues. I don’t need the speedometer to work right away but getting short on time..

I believe, (at least with a 3rz) you CAN use the auto ecu with a manual as long as you simulate a NSS. But it's got some funky characteristics without the input from the trans, like rpm fluctuating while braking and other weird tendencies. Manual ECU swap at some point would make things a bit nicer

I swapped a 3rz with auto CPU in front of a W56. As mentioned above, short the nuetral safety send/receive sockets and it ran fine. VSS adapter from marlin got the speedo working.

where do I find the wiring for nss? That seems like the simple solution till I find a manual ecu.

trnamission is still automatic but no electronics in it and it’s full manual control so they’re not needed

I used the full donor 3rd gen 4runner harness (engine and dash), the plug was on the dash harness. Get factory wire diagrams for whatever your combination is, check the cpu pin out and then start tracing wires. Factory in the 3rd gen 4runner donor was a plug that connected next to the shifter.

What’s the advantage of a manual controller, clear the check engine light?

I have multiple things causing a check engine light so not even concerned about that

Oh, didn't realize you had another auto in there. You should be good to stick with the ECU you have then and only short out that NSS plug
