Haha wow, yeah it’s totally off for second gens. I can make it work though. I’ve got some scrap 2x0.25” DOM and the Barnes crossmember bushing thing coming. I like your skid. I’d like to build something to cover the pan for sure.

That's exactly what happened to me. Only difference is that I ended up with an older D60 (kingpin) and 14bolt.

Interesting to see how conversations have shifted on this topic. Some years back saying that 1ton axles was a better investment long-term than toyota axles was not well received in some toyota groups. Now it seems quite a common conversation everywhere.

I have the 2.7, so it doesn't fully translate, but I did get the PSC pump. Very good product. Also got their reservoir...kinda pricey, but it seems to make a significant different.

    Hey man check your PM.

Got the victim. Hoping to have axles ordered this week then I’ll place orders for everything else.

I've fucked around with the factory res and a couple aftermarket options with an overflow but have had different issues with all of them. Granted I am running a fat ram for a Yota setup at 2x8" but it works well in the rocks. I have a PSC res waiting to go on but I ordered the wrong fittings for it lol.

As I understand the PSC res does a couple things that are important when running a big ram:
    • Inlet and outlet on the bottom -> fluid should always return below the fluid level in the res, reducing cavitation
    • They claimed the internal filter would help reduce cavitation issues as well -- idk, maybe the larger air bubbles break up across the filter media?
    • The way it's setup you can fill the res almost all the way and have enough room for expansion to get away with a vent only. there's no need for an overflow.
    • There's enough capacity to support a large ram without sucking the res completely dry

Have you drilled out the restrictor on the factory pump and fucked with the shims?

What steering box? FWIW I was warned that the Yota IFS box restricts flow enough that going to an aftermarket pump wasn't worth it unless I was going full hydro but ymmv.

I have a TG pump on the shelf for that day, I guess, but I've had decent results out of the lil 22r pump with some basic mods

That was back when there was more than 2 Toyota parts vendors and parts were still cheap and even then people were still staying just toss tons under them. Now it doesn't make much sense to "keep it all Toyota" unless you really want to geek out or want to mess with them and the Toyota after market vendors mostly suck now.

hahaha word, there's a decent number of "off the shelf" Toyota parts that require you to fabricate shit to make them work anyways.

Yea, that's the whole other issue which is if you want to build a Toyota you basically need to learn to fabricate. If you want to just bolt shit on (no judging as I hate fabricating, but I hate torx bolts more LOL) buy a jeep.

Trail-Gear will make a fabricator out of anyone willing to order from the catalog :D

That is the one thing I miss about the jeep market. There are some really high quality options that don't require more than turning a wrench lol. Sometimes it's nice to just bolt shit up. Long arm kit and coilovers? Got it. Weekend project. Tons that bolt right in? No problem. Full cage? Got that. Maybe you weld up frame tie ins and that's the worst of it.

And the churn of aftermarket parts is really high so suspension and armor are always cheap secondhand

Don't mention Jeep in a Toyota forum. These die hard Toyota guys will blast you.

after browsing Motobilt, BK, Artec, RuffStuff, Barnes yada yada this is so true. You can just bolt up ideal geometry links, cage tons etc with minimal effort. Kind of nice to have something not so cookie cutter though. That’s my rationale for the crapload of effort it takes to make shit work on a Tacoma I guess haha

That's an understatement. TBH, I rather buy a Rubicon than a lame 'ol PRO. But that's just me.
