As long as Ricky Johnson isn't doing commentating I'll be happy.

    Must be!

Thing is that good tech gets posted when posts don't derail :D

Still, I'd want to learn more about air bumps. This is the one area that seems to have the most controversy in SAS circles...even more than the leafs vs links debate lol. Would like to know if air bumps really provide noticeable benefits for people who are not doing the go-fast stuff with their rigs. Lots of conflicting info out there.

Is there much debate? There’s a laundry list of pros with the single con of costs.

@slander likes air bumps. He thinks a 30k build should have them. Im on the fence. I think the oil pan is sufficient.

Mine has a nice dent in it from the hydro assist. I did have to reseal it because it broke the cork gasket but black RTV seems fine with being smacked around a little bit

The ram pushed the arm into it at full bump?

My brain is fucked up. I know $600 bump stops are needed but can't bring myself to buy til the truck is completely done. I still haven't even done my HA. Gonna stick w the ole standard issue power steering at first.

The ram is mounted over the axle in a one of a kind way with a custom steering arm my buddy machined and the body of the ram hits the pan at full bump. i actually put in a poly bump to stop it from happening but I guess it compresses more than I expected and need to drop it down some

Edit: i could also probably mount the ram to the back of the truss and fix it that way lol

    Have a pic?

Workin on it bro. Got the frame boxed at least. I now realize how important that was. But, I already bent my rear frame channels. So, plates aren't the big issue. lol

Yea box that shit up, my truck was banana shaped and then crooked LOL!

The point I was trying to make throughout all this was, is If I was dumping 5figures worth of money and months of time into a suspension system, why would you not just toss them in right off the bat, you have to build it at full bump anyway?? I'm one of the cheapest mofo when it comes to this hobby, the stated goal of my SAS was to do it as cheaply as possible, and I added them after and kicked myself for not just doing it right off the bat, huge pain in the ass.

Saying that I had poly bumps forever in the rear and they were fine, I'm just upgrading while I'm doing all my hacking.

Oh, no, you misunderstood. I boxed with all that dimple die shit, cross braced it, painted, then bent it after all was done. Can't even get 1 of the bed bolts on. I can fix w a frame spreader but don't give a fuck.

I know what you're saying though. I once built a 50k mitsubishi evo and almost killed myself many times cause I didn't want to spend 4k to replace the shit brembo fire starters it came with. Idk why. Maybe I subconsciously like a little chaos in a build.

I don't understand why bumps are so expensive. I guarantee fox employee cost is like $50 each for those things.

Lmao!! How the hell did you bend it?? I fully expect to have to use the frame spreader (hi lift jack) on mine at some point before my projects done.

They are so expensive due to their "supply chain issues" with "made in America" parts;)

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:I tried the farm jack!!!! for some reason it kept pushing the passenger side out and the driver was the problem.

I put the rear cross bar in and its 1.75 dom 1/8 wall and I thought it would be ok to jack up on to get the leaf springs to droop so I could seat them to tighten u bolts. That shit bent like a taco in a flash. Pulled the driver side in I assume. It bent back but its like 1/2" out now and rear driver bed bolt wont go in. I am the king of doing nice work then doing donkey shit to ruin it.

There's tech talk "debate" in the Southwest at least.

Many guys argue that poly bumps are all you need in a properly designed/built suspension for rock crawling.

But many other guys really swear that air bumps make a dramatic difference even is super slow moving vehicles.

I like to hear from people who do other other kinds of wheeling in other parts of the country. It's interesting to hear from other perspectives.

I haven't gotten around to doing a build thread yet, I need to. Hit me up if you have any questions, I went with a dizzy 8 port motor. Been running it for about 3 years now. Had 1 major electrical issue which ended up being Cam sensor wiring, and right now I'm doing a head gasket on it
