Folks with trailered rigs tend to build their own out of DOM from what I can tell. Not worried about balancing because it’ll be thrown off the first time it gets used as a slider. I don’t know about the strength differences, but 1410 and 1350 stuff is more widely available and easily compatible with one ton stuff from what I’ve seen thus far.

Mines a trailered rig and as long as I replace any single joints once a year I have no issues with a heavy foot and 40s.

Seems your trying to finish this thing with the least amount of cost possible so why not get flanges for the one ton axles to accept your stock shafts and use them.

Not sure what gave you the impression I’m trying to finish it as cheap as possible? Would have gone a total different direction if I was. More interested in buying things that would transfer over to another buggy/bouncer build in the future if I wanted.

This has been my experience as well. Toyota driveshafts are insane compared to the bullshit dana u-joint setup with straps or bolts

Stock Tacoma driveshafts with extended flanges and adapted to fit one ton axles vs DOM with 1410 joints? That’s what we are debating right now?

it’s looking scarce to find anything more than a 1350 to mate to a Tacoma tcase which makes sense. I’ve got 1410 at the yoke so I’m keeping that and I’ll run 1350 everywhere else. Should be easier to find a double cardan and flange or yoke for the tcase that way.

You are forgetting he has a 2nd gen with the shitty spicer crap and not the good japanese Toyota flanges and joints.

Yeah I went down the internet rabbit hole trying to figure out what y’all meant. My shit already looks like a mangled butthole. I guess the older stuff was better.

The older Toyota stuff ( 1st gen Tacomas and earlier) was legit stronger than 1ton stuff and you could get crazy angles out of them with like 5mins of grinding on flanges and CVs. This is all provided you used japanese OEM parts, once you go parts store crap it goes down hill quick. The tubes were thin as hell and are the weak point.

That’s the idea I gathered, as well. My current shit isn’t worth modifying. I’d rather sell it to someone as a spare and start fresh. I think DOM and builder kits is probably a solid choice. Whatever combination of 1410/1350 stuff works for what I need. Not going to get too caught up in it since I’m on the stock tcase and if I ever change that I’ve gotta make new shafts anyways. At least past the slip yoke.

I mean… you went from arguing with everyone about a 3link vs 4link to fuck it I’m buying a 100k bouncer back to a shitty Toyota.

I still don’t follow. How does that mean I’m going the cheapest route on the Tacoma? If I wanted cheap and easy I would have done leafs and Toyota axles.

Just got mine in. They look nice and substantial. Time will tell how they hold up, but I’m excited to try them out.

Nice! Mine shipped, waiting for them to come in. I now see the rebuild kit on TGs website. They look solid.

What makes the toyota shit stronger? The flanges vs straps on the diff side of a cv style shaft?

Good thing I gave all my spare driveshaft parts away. lol

My 1410's look indestructible so ill see. The strap thing is questionable. The one thing is you can get the american joints from your local mcdonalds basically.

Way to not do any research, whoever got those shafts scored big time!:D

While true, the good thing about the OEM Japanese joints is if you grease them you don't have to replace them. If you manage to break an actual OEM pre 2nd gen tacoma or mini truck u joint, you deserve a medal. 2nd gens and newer have spicer shit in them and thus are garbage.

When you are trying to fit a square peg in a triangle hole, the driveshafts you are tripping over everyday become a casualty of war and that research is a problem for your future self. Which, seems to be the present me.

Im still 2wd. Didn't get my front shaft yet.

When I went to the atlas I was going to to go 1410 and driveline tech literally talked me out of spending big money with him and keeping my toyota stuff instead. After breaking a joint a year right at the year mark, replacing the single u joints has just become a yearly maintenance thing for me.
