Dunno how many people here are from Southern California, but just trying to get a gauge of folks who are still willing to do a SAS conversion (shops, any places you've heard about, etc). Southern CA, Northern CA, heck even Vegas.

I have talked to some folks but just want to get an awareness of who else.....

In SoCal I know Arcadia Offroad has done a few. In NorCal you could try Hot Metal Fab, or Califabrication, Infamous Metal Works. If they don't do them anymore I'm sure they know shops that are willing.

Yea - I think Arcadia doesn't do them anymore. I know Unleashed4x4 still does them in NorCal, I talk to Hot Metal Fab about other stuff, but haven't discussed anything SAS. Califab is interesting. I'll make an inquiry. Thanks!

He swears he’s done with builds after spending so much time on that Nissan. I’d be curious what a shop breakdown would be on a typical swap. I’d imagine a labor rate of somewhere north of $200/hr and then a big question about how many billable hours

Oh I know, but figured it’d be worth the ask. I imagine labor alone on a solid axle swap is $10-15k. Not including parts.

I figured somewhere in that range too. Figure 10 working days in a bay, minimum, to do the swap. I’d assume even an ordinary auto shop bay is around $1k per day of labor revenue…

I should also add that I’m only thinking about your basic bitch 3 link. The price goes up with air bump cans, limit straps, hydro assist installed, etc

I’m in Vegas, after doing mine on leaf springs and now a 3 link I’d consider doing another for someone else. Just a hobby fabricator really though

You can message me if your serious. I have a few concerns about doing one for someone else but that’s more about the legal/insurance aspect with everyone suing each other over everything.

You look like you do great work but yea, totally understandable with the liability aspect. My friend sent his truck off to a guy few states away and it took nearly 2 years for completion. Lots of back and forth, both parties upset.

I would guess it would take me 1-2 months depending on if I had all the parts and working my day job and considering I have a few trips coming up. 3 months at most depending on parts availability.

the legal aspect could probably be over came with some papers and both parties just go down and have it signed and notarized I would assume. Simple document saying the truck owner agrees that it’s “offroad” only and no liability if you crash it essentially.

I just struggle to imagine paying someone to do a solid axle swap for me. I’m like $25k in on doing a 300k mile 1998 4runner (including price of the runner, wheels/tires, etc…). Add another $10k of labor? Fuck. To do a low mileage truck and pay shop labor I’ll bet you’d be in the 40’s to have a 25-30 year old Toyota on solid axles.
