Order the borgeson stuff as mentioned. That’s what I have on mine and am just going to pull the seal out of the factory plate, trace the factory plate pattern onto a piece of steel and then cut that out and use it.

Just buy a lunchbox locker, driving and managing all that would be a nightmare.

I'm pretty hesitant about lunchbox lockers on a DD, and especially with what I've heard about their performance in snowy/icy conditions. I also already have the mechanical LSD in the rear, and I can definitely say it doesn't appear to help limit the slip in any scenario I've ever needed it. It would definitely be a cheap alternative to selectable lockers, regearing, and making the jump to 35s though. As far as managing the system, the few times I've needed a locker were because I lifted a tire in the front and back going over some otherwise easy terrain. I have no plans of doing real rock crawling or deep mud/snow driving with the truck as it sits now, but I agree, it would be a PIA to use it in the more common locker scenarios. It would be more of a use it a handful of times per year kind of thing.

Building that system would be a spider web of brake lines and fittings. It would literally be easier to learn how to drive a lunch box locker equipped truck on the street in the snow, or better yet, just buy a winch for the times you lift a tire and get stuck.

Why do you need 35s and selectable lockers if you aren't rockcrawling it?

I do have a winch, but it would be nice to have a "get unstuck" button to save the trouble when possible. I would like to make it a crawler in the future, hence the want for lockers and bigger tires, and someday in the far far future, a SAS. But as it sits now, as my only vehicle I don't want to go looking for trouble haha. More a thought exercise anyway, since I probably wouldn't be making it happen too soon. I just wanted get your guy's thoughts on the matter since it's something I've seen a few times on the more built up rigs.

Agree with this solution being overly complex. Swap in a elocker housing, wire it up and get your unstuck button.

If I can find one locally, that'll definitely be the easiest solution. Junkyard parts seem to be pretty few and far between up here though. Thanks for the insight though guys.

If you don't want to go looking for trouble, go lay on your bed until the thought of making you braking system insanely complicated for no good reason goes away.

Anyone have the borgeson part numbers? I see different part numbers all over this site.

@Kerleyfries probably does since he just ordered his steering shaft recently.

This is to go from OE steering column to an IFS steering box on my 98 4runner. I took about 8” out of one side of the steering shaft which put me right in the center of the travel of it. That way it has some stretch but will also collapse a bit if I wreck.

I don't think Borgeson makes a u-joint that can fit without some kind of modification. My steering shaft (99 4Runner) on the steering wheel side is keyed, the only plug and play u-joint I can find is the one from TG. Gotta bust out the dremel I guess.

I ground on mine a little bit and it slid right on. Taking out those two spots won’t effect anything.

Redid the steering for the 4th time. Hopefully this one sticks. Ram to the knuckle feels right.

Side note for anyone doing this. Check out the full kit from 4wu. After looking at that, I wish I had went with that. Looks very well put together.
