I need to solid axle the front of my 19’. What axle can I use that will be same width(ish)as oe Tacoma rear axle?
I linked the back with oe axle and it’s a game changer. Makes the front look bad!
For the same or less monies than an IFS LT I can solid axle. What do you guys think I can use without ordering a custom axle

The answer for a non fabbed axle is an 05+ SD60 pretty much always these days.

Then you need a new rear axle, 8 lug wheels, etc.

I'd probably start with sliders before thinking about a solid axle swap but I don't know your background, or use case.

Got a lot of stuff lol
I ended up doing a 78 f150 dana 44 high pinion and was surprised how similar the wms was compared to the stock rear toyota axle. If I remember correctly it landed around 65". You can even change the outers to chevy so you have matching lug patterns.

I have sliders, pulled them off to link the back. Have to cut the rear mount points and fab something to make it work…I feel naked without them

If I was going through the work of swapping a second gen, I wouldn’t bother with anything half ton or Toyota based.

x2, Much heavier platform and that 4.0/3.5 motor is a lot more powerful than the 2.4l that Toy based driveline was designed for.

Yep. Correct. When I did my 2nd gen. Runner i originally put a Toyota front axle and kept the Toyota rear. That lasted about a year before I started breaking ring and pinions. Got mad and went 14 bolt and 60.

I also had put a 44 /8.8 in my Cherokee and it costed the same as my 60/14

If your.going through the trouble just go as big as you can I say.

40's are necessary imo with tons though otherwise you got yourself a boat anchor with that pumpkin. If you only want 37's I think a Toyota can make sense.

Get the grinder out and after shaving. My f/r 9.5s are not that much smaller than a shaved 1ton.

How does a fabbed 1ton housing compare in clearance to a shaved one?

I don't know, but building a fabbed 1ton housing kind of defeats the purpose of keeping something on 37s because you don't want the expense of 40s:rofl:

Oh ya totally. All this axle talk just made me wonder that.
Although I'm sure most that are going to a fab housing aren't doing it for the clearance gains....

1t with 40s have the same clearance as toyota on 37s.

Pick your poison and your tire size and go from there. If you have a heavy foot and like to send it, 1t is the way but you're moving the breaking point elsewhere.

Yeah exactly. Toyota axles still work well on lighter stuff built around 37’s in mini truck fashion. But second gen Tacomas are a far cry from mini trucks that really need the bigger axles to deal with their weight and power. Plus the SD60 swap has gotten so easy and cheap too these days that it’s silly to not go that route unless you absolutely hate your wallet like me and want to build a bling set of 609 axles like @malburg114

I’ll always say it but if you can do a sas. You can do a 609 front axle for the same cost as building a junkyard 60 axle. Figure all your keeping is the housing and they go for around 1200-1500 around me. I can build a 609 housing with new inner cs and used knuckles for the same price and regardless you have to stuff both with chromoly and lockers and gears.

plus screw this 05+ superduty I’m building now. It’s stupid heavy
