Gonna throw this out there for whatever it’s worth. I think the peak fun for my second gen was a shock relocate, long travel, front locker, 35’s and 4.88s. Still pretty much all the Toyota reliability and half ass functionality it had stock and enough capability to have a good time wheeling.

I don’t regret SASing the taco just because I learned a shitload, but there’s nothing logical about it whatsoever. I get the novelty of it though. Good luck. Tire size, wheeling style, weight, HP, should be factors in axle selection in my opinion.

Anytime I touch a SD axle, it’s just a question of what sized sledgehammer I’m choosing to get the job done. Because all SD60 jobs require a sledge :D

The rear(!) brake calipers alone are hilariously huge

    Why? What’s your use case?

I’ve got a lot of questions and I’m trying to be nicer than I used to be so I’ll just leave it with those two.

What's the consensus on pinion flanges/yokes for 1 ton axles (for a 3rd gen 4Runner)? My front Dana 60 axle I'm building has the 1350 yoke stock, and Sterling 10.5 came with a flange. T-case has Toyota flanges front/rear. Should I buy Toyota flanges for the 60/10.5? Are Toyota flanges strong enough? Or should I change everything to 1350? or 1410? I haven't bought driveshafts yet obviously, just trying to get an idea on strength for a typical 1-ton build.
