The change from pre 05 to 05+ front axle was primarily going from leaf springs to coil springs, and bigger brakes. I don’t think there are really any other changes that would affect weight

    Not an expert…

Oh it’s already far from stock lol may just sell it and throw that money towards getting 40’s on the jeep at some point. That’s a whole other can of worms/expense, but probably a better outcome than 40’s on the 4Runner…

Thought maybe thinner tubes, smaller axle shafts maybe. Maybe shorter? I have no idea. Can’t find anything on Pirate either.

I tossed the idea of SD 3 link my GX for some time now too but it wouldn’t get use as much. Maybe I’ll go with MCLT, will definitely get more use out of it vs SA. Will see

    69 vs 72 wms
    Same carrier
    Same inner axles stock
05+ has bigger brakes, can fit 1550 joints in the bigger Cs and knuckles vs 1480 in 04, 35 spline outer vs 30 in 04, and I think better turning radius

what I could find is 530 for stock dressed 04 vs 670 on 05+

I think 04 would be plenty strong, maybe do 35 spline outers. That 8” rear is fucked if you beat it though, plenty blow on 35s.

You’re correct, that rear will poo itself quick on 40’s lol I think the 04 would be plenty strong with the anemic 3.4 especially. Was hoping to just sell the 4Runner, but no bites and I’m not selling for less than I can part it out lol the jeeps at a perfect point to be family friendly, streetable and still have some fun. Just miss having something I can really beat on at a park…

No need to. My mind is pretty firm with MCLT if I decide to LT, that kit is pure BEEF imo.

can anyone in here confirm the Borgeson Ujoint PN used to go from the 2nd gen (2006) stock steering stem to a telescopic shaft? I tried a 5/8"-36spline Ujoint (PN: 014918) and couldnt get it on the stem. I did grind the non-splined section at the end of the stem to allow the ujoint to go on, but still having trouble. Its possible i have created some burrs on the stem splines that im going to have to clean up. any help appreciated.

I know little about Toyota front axles. Would 40’s be too much for this? I know I’ve seen older 22re and samis run 40’s on these… What’s a good match for the rear?

I think the consensus is 37s max on toyo front axles if you're going to get into stuff. That's what I run, happy with it, wouldn't go bigger.

Depends on what kind of driver you are.

IFS hubs from 86'-95', will get you 3" wider. Add some 1.25 spacers to them and you'll have a close match to the rear width wise. There's a few trucks on this site running those axles with good results.

I think I’m pretty good at managing expectations. I’ve broken 2.5 ton stuff before, but my expectations were high because it was a high expectation rig. This would be a low expectation rig haha I’d be pleasantly surprised more than shockingly disappointed I guess is the best way to put it. Really just want to put this thing together at a reasonable cost and avoid having a yard ornament. Definitely not trying to go overboard like the taco sas.

37’s on those are probably close to the pumpkin clearance of 40’s and tons if I had to speculate…

close. IIRC, 40 on 1t still have less of a clearance than Toyota on 37

Nice light weight option. I ended up with an FJ60 basterdized a bit. The waggy D44 might be an option for you to look into. Same lug pattern, driver drop and width as the rear.

Yeah I was about to ask about the waggys. Didn’t realize they had the same bolt pattern, that’s interesting. Strength similar to the modern d44s? Kinda linear move from the jeep. Don’t guess I want to build a shittier version of my jeep lol how do the LC axles compare to the truck axles? They’re all passenger drop though right?
