Iirc from what I have seen in the past all are done this way. I don't know how many teeth our trucks have but anyone should be able to make one and have it work.

Nice thing about a manual truck is it takes the speedo reading from the tcase and not the abs sensor

I am curious if the 2016 Tacoma will have a similar setup, wherein if one has an auto 4WD and changes the rear axle, will be able to replicate the steps that Rock Solid Toys has done

Perhaps... it depends on how the system works.

The axle you swap in would need to have all the necessary components (sensors, etc) on it as your stock axle has and/or figure out how to get things to work. Speedo & Odometer accuracy can change just by putting larger tires on - and you very rarely see folks modding to 'fix' the inaccuracy.

You do need to make sure the gear ratio in the diff equals the front diff (in 4WD) or vis versa. With Axle swaps, you also have concerns with yoke, driveshaft & length, brakes & brake lines, Shocks & mounts, spring perch and suspension concerns / driveshaft angle, clearance, etc. To only name a few.....

Swapping the rear axle for a Dana 60 with a WMS-WMS 72" . However, can't you just ground the wires that lead to the ABS, Traction Control, and Tire Pressure sensors so that you will have less trouble in doing this type of swap, provided that you hook up the speedo to the transfer case?

I have no idea what you can or can't do..... depends on the system and how it works. The swaps I've experienced were older vehicles without all the electronic gizmos that you see today.

You could try anything and see what type of results you'd get. It'll either work or it won't. If it doesn't work...then you move to plan B.

However, as compared to doing a front SAS swap, there won't be as much electronic gizmos in the rear axle, except for an ABS sensor, and tire pressure monitor that you can always ground its connections so the truck will "think" its working.

Speedometer runs off the transmission, not the rear axle.

That is why when @awsumdc swapped his rear axle, he had to get his speed signals from the transfer case, which is how the manual 2005(+) Tacos get their speed.

You sure about this? The t-case is the same on the manual and auto 2 gen. There are no speed sensors on either.

The t-cases are the same, but they use different methods when getting the speed of the rear wheels. The manual Taco's use the t-case, while the auto Taco's use ABS sensors in the stock rear axle. It can be an issue when you swap a rear axle in an auto Taco, as aftermarket axles, may not have ABS sensors. Thus, one has to rewire the rear speed sensors to the t-case. Hope that helps.

Why would they do that? Toyota engineering confuses me. Is there a technical reason why the A/T needs the speed at the hubs and the M/T needs it at the transfer case? Sounds like the ECU can a signal from either even though the reading at the t-case is 3.73:1 slower than at the hubs.

The sources where the ECU gets its reading for it to determine speed, are different in Auto and Manual Taco's. This is on an automatic Tacoma

there are speed sensors on the transfer case for manual transmission.

Yes I know, I've been saying that. Also have 4wd and h-n-l sensors too.
