    Hello,

I have installed an anytime back up camera from trail grid pro. Pre wired harness. I installed and then had a shop double check the work including the pre wired for any errors. Everything installed correctly. I have a 21 TRD off-road 4x4. Got this to better see behind me when driving due to rack, tailgate swing out with spare blocking visibility. Issue here is when I activate switch while driving truck thinks it's suddenly in reverse and throws error code. Drive start control malfunction. Unplug camera and all normal. I've seen one chat in 4runner group about it with no resolution. Anyone got any bright ideas?

NEED HELP and HELP PLEASE tags are reserved for people in an emergency situation stuck on the side of the road. Please consider changing the title of this thread as using those tags for non-emergency / stuck situations waters down the tags and eventually anyone that would like attention and help solving a problem will start to use the tags just for the eyeballs and clicks the tags generate.

    A few thoughts...

    1. I don't think it's wired correctly.
    2. I'm not sure how this "shop" verified the install, but I wouldn't trust most places to verify any OEM wiring, let along aftermarket.
    3. It's probably not that bad.

I installed this from the kit, but was just a little disappointed to find that the "kit" is not as plug-and-play as I had expected for the price. I didn't get the "prewired" one because I can figure this stuff out on my own, plus I don't like when most of this aftermarket stuff either doesn't have enough wire length or WAY more wire than what's needed and you either have to bundle it up, stuff it somewhere, or cut it up for a clean install.

So, maybe the person that pre-wired it messed up. Things happen. Check against this (bad) diagram to see that the connections and wire colours make sense:
    https://www.anytimebackupcamera.com/blogs/install-help/component-diagram

The anytime backup mod intercepts the vehicle's REVERSE signal to the head unit, which activates the camera input. Using the switch and relay it selects the front or rear video signal, and forces the reverse signal on - or with the switch in the middle position the original signal passed through.

Now, the diagram sucks, so I'm having trouble pointing out exact colours.... but your symptom sure seems like something is feeding back into the REVERSE signal wire which is causing the computer to think it's in reverse gear.

I recall having found a better diagram somewhere, but alas I can't find it again.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
If the camera is on all the time!!

Why is it even connected to the reverse light circuit.

    Something is not wired correct.

I think you would be better off with a full time camera rear view mirror. Something like this. Tons of options out there, easy to install and everything is recorded. You place the rear camera high and outside the cab which gives a great view of the rear. It's amazing how much more you can see when you are not looking through the cab.
