Sorry, I must be thick. How will this work? Is it on wheels and towed behind the truck?

I have a Four Wheel Camper now, but before that I would just toss my backpack sleeping pads in the bed and put up a sun shade over the truck. Keeps the sun and rain off and great for hot nights.

Will build platform flush with wheel wells and Just skid is into back of truck, or throw it on utility trailer if we bringing the dirt bikes. Will try to get a couple more pics of it. My friend calls it the egg...

I've purchased some tent fabric, zippers, and shock cord; mocking up my own version of the short bed tent extension to go over the tailgate. I have the sewing almost done, just need to come up with the best way to attach to the truck and cap. Pics to come!

Wondering if you ever sewed up your tailgate tent?

Anybody else got any fresh ideas? There was some talk early in the thread about Softopper making an extension/add-on that would extend over the tailgate for camping, but it appears that hasn't happened yet. Somebody could cash in on this!

I finally got my topper, so it looks like I might just get that DAC tailgate tent that's in the first post. Looks pretty shitty quaility, but it beats cramming myself in a 5ft bed or leaving the tailgate down and getting devoured by mosquitos!

Simple solution that I've used is just using the rain guard from my 5 person tent. It's already got attachment points everywhere plus bungee and hooks at all 4 corners. I attach 2 corners around my sliders and the other 2 out passed the tailgate. Not the prettiest solution but it's free and easy.

Not a bad idea man.. I might play around with my rainfly tonight and see what I can come up with. I don't need to spend anymore after dropping $2k on this hunk of fiberglass anyway!

I did indeed! Everything worked flawlessly except attaching it to the truck. I ended up trying velcro on the sides and top (the bottom tucked under the tailgate), but it wasn't as strong/waterproof as I hoped. In the end I bought the tent in the pic below. It's worked out perfectly with the one drawback of being ugly and obvious.
